I've seen some traditional/red-pill men argue that women should ideally marry men significantly older than themselves. Some say an age gap of around 8 years should be the minimum while larger gaps are also viewed positively.

One reason I've seen given is that when the husband reaches old age, there will still be a younger spouse able to care for him.

What I'm wondering is: if this arrangement is considered ideal how is the possibility of widowhood viewed? In many cases the wife would be more likely to outlive her husband, and by that stage any children may have grown up and started their own families.

Within this worldview is spending a significant portion of later life without a spouse considered an expected trade off, or is there another way people who hold these beliefs think about it?
