I've noticed that some instances where cited comments/posts are downvoted involve the citation of "information" which has been previously discussed and debunked, like people quoting the short, oft-contradicted (within the law itself) nondiscrimination clause in VAWA as proof that the law isn't sexist, despite the mountain of evidence that yes, it is. I think after a while, some redditors get tired of seeing what is essentially "same shit, different account" and just respond with a downvote. In that context, they are following reddiquette, as repeating a misleading statement, myth, or outright lie doesn't contribute to the conversation.

This sub is better then most but honestly this is just how reddit (Sans only upvotes subs) operates. I wish your advice would be followed but I seriously doubt it will be here or elsewhere.

I don't care if it SEEMS rude or not. It's this PC "let's look out for others' feeewwwiiinnggss" that got us here in the first place. Most of the time they cite studies that are already disproven using evidence from the sidebar. I've even seen people cite the Mary Koss study on campus rape (LOL) for example.

Also one thing I disagree with about Reddit is that downvoted posts are by default hidden. We don't need to be shielded from asinine opinions.

Sometimes what people type has logic flaws so deep as to leave no logic left to argue with, simple word games that are nothing more than the contradictory message of 'go away'. These people often in fact think they are being very intelligent. There is no point debating this.

I've been noticing a trend which may better explain the phenomenon in this sub.

Many of the SRSers and feminist apologists use weak emotional arguments, apart from the previously disproven studies. When an emotional argument, or shaming argument is used, it often includes some name-calling and gets downvoted mercilessly, as it should be.

When someone disagrees and makes a logical, coherent post according to standard rhetorical practice they generally get upvotes. However, this system is not perfect as I regularly receive downvotes for opposing the political name-calling that seems dominated by the professional leftists and rightists around here.

This also extends to standards of attractiveness that are feminist leaning even here in what is supposed to be an MRA subreddit, being against the State depriving, or authorizing the deprivation of human life infanticide, euthanasia, attacks on citizens. I mean shit, why can't I call a spade:

However, there is also a confusion by those that are less suave with debate to apply the rule of ad hominem attacks when attacking someone's posting history as I do [here] (http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/15r69i/is_anybody_else_getting_sick_of_feminists_posing/c7p6ydx) and likewise downvote.

However, no sub is perfect and I believe we are better and more inclusive than most - just don't appeal to emotion via a shame argument.

Other types of emotional appeals go over much better.

I just don't care. We live in an age and culture that says any criticism of women is misogyny... but all criticism of men is just fine.

Well , I don't give a shit anymore. I'm going to call nasty women cunts just the same as I'd call nasty men assholes. I don't care if anybody "feeeeeeeeeeeels" offended. Our entire society seriously needs to re-grow a pair and learn to live with things they don't like to hear. It's not my job to make sure your feelings aren't hurt , it's your job to learn to deal with that sort of thing.

As to the woman bashing thing , well , as I said , we live in a culture where virtually nothing can be said about women without it being construed as misogyny. Nobody even seems to know what the words actually means and just because somebody says that "women" do 'this' or 'that' doesn't require them to put the NAWALT caveat in front of every single bloody comment they make. Just a tiny drop of wisdom should tell the reader that no , of course they don't mean "their" moms or daughters , or sisters , or whatever. Why the fuck does this even need to be explained to anybody who's ever set foot outside even once in their entire life ?

Concerning the down-voting : Well , welcome to the internet. People can't actually stand right in front of you and say "you're wrong" and they know they're not going to be heard by adding to a 500 response thread so they do the only thing they can which is to click that down arrow. Sure , it's not supposed to be that way but it is. It's no coincidence therefore that the most concise responses that have earned the most praise are at the top. Think of it as democracy.

Agreed. Downvotes are for bot-spam, advertisements, and improper posts (cat pictures in /MensRights/ for example). Not for disagreements.

I'm curious. What perspectives do you feel that have been squashed here, and in what context? Can you give us a specific example? It's no coincidence that posts with an abnormal amount of downvotes usually have sentimental, easily fallible reasoning, if any reasoning at all. Respecting opinions means that people are free to voice them, it does not mean that all opinions are equal in merit, or that we have to pretend otherwise.

This happens to me a lot for wanting a religious exemption for circumcision (or not making it illegal in the first place), but the anger of strangers on the internet doesn't really bother me. It does concern me that other readers may not get to see my comments because they are downvoted.
