OP why do you continue to do the program? I, imagine after four years you have earned the leeway, to ask to do a program for Men one year as a pilot program. Your, in a golden opportuinity to be an advocate. Clearly you have the skill set and trust of the staff to do this.

First, I'm 100% on board with the idea of programs to help men advance or get a foot in the door in areas that are woman dominated (elementary education, nursing, dental assisting, med tech). It's sorely lacking and hurts everyone. It also allows old stereotypes about what appropriate "men's work" to flourish.

The women outnumbering men in college stat you cite is correct (at least by my research), but that is for overall college programs. What is it for women in STEM programs? My understanding was enrollment and graduation rates for women in STEM still lag.

Personal anecdote time: I have worked in STEM publishing for 14 years now. I've worked in journals, books, ebooks, online courses... just about every content-oriented role possible. I'm female, which has never been a hindrance in my office, but it has been a hurdle in dealing with authors, editors, reviewers and customers in STEM. I have dozens of examples of outright hostility from scientists based on my gender, but this one really stands out: A Nobel nominated neuroscientist went all the way to the VP of Publishing because he didn't want me working as Developmental Editor on his prestigious atlas. His complaint was that I was wearing an engagement ring, which he took to mean that I wasn't serious about my career, or his book. "She's probably going to get knocked up and leave" was what he told my boss. I fought hard to stay on that project because it could (and did) do a lot for my career. It was hell. That editor belittled me every step of the way, but I hung in there and we put out a great book. Still, I'd prefer that other women did not have to go through the same thing.

There's nothing wrong with getting women interested in science. If there are women with the predisposition, by all means give them all the access and opportunity that any man would have.

Just don't fuck over guys to do it. Give men the same opportunities and access... and while this is more of a demand of the system as a whole as opposed to any one person within it, work to getting the same sort of incentives and "legs up" and to defeat ugly stereotypes of men in areas where they're largely excluded; demolishing the ugly presumptions about men that prevent many from finding employment as K-6 teachers, for instance.

This happened to me when I was in fourth grade. My school brought in Siemens to do some girls only lab stuff to get girls more interested in science. It wasn't fair at all. Those experiments were cool. All we boys got to do were sit in the cafeteria and do language arts shit. I'm still raging over this!

I would venture to say the ratio of women to men in college is more along the lines of 3-1, speaking from experience. That's not even the ratio in social science classes, which usually have even less guys, but for math and science courses. It's pretty interesting to see the amount of out dated information feminists present when playing the "numbers" game.
