First of all, holy shit.

she is absolutely losing her mind over it

It's obviously wise of her to ask for a prenup, especially with so much to lose, but it does seem strange that she'd throw a fit over such a (relatively) small stipulation.

What are her specific objections? My guess is that it's not the request itself, but perhaps an overly emotional response to a perceived slight.

I wouldn't back down on what seems to be a pretty reasonable negotiation on your part, but a little more detail would allow MRP to give better quality advice.

I'm just some nobody but a 5 figures salary can be anything between minimum wage and 99k a year. If you're on the upper end of that, why don't you keep 15k in savings as a bailout fund?

Also, how has her making a lot more than you affected your relationship dynamics? Why does she want to marry you when she could marry a guy in or above her social class? Don't mean to be insulting, I'm just curious

Something is off man. I hung out for a few years, in my early 20's, with a couple guys who were both heirs to vast fortunes, one solid 8 figures and the other one 9, and probably 10 figures. One of the guys bought one of Simon Templar's actual Volvos and managed to destroy it over the course of a summer. Good fun. I have seen first hand what is pocket money and serious money for these people... Anything under $30-40k barely registers on their radar, it's common, daily expense.

I don't know what it is, but you have the proper insight... there is something else. Maybe she does not want a hard figure (ie $15k)? Why don't you suggest a description of the services to be paid (ie temporary lodging at hotel X for one month, maybe condo for 3 months, storage locker for 4 months, 2 separate moving days (truck and full crew). Maybe it could help? Good luck.

A lot of uber-rich people are weird. Money is fun, but I am unsure it' a good thing long-term. I find something weird happens when wealth climbs over 5-10 millions... anyhow, congratulations (?) and all the best.

The real question is how does this marriage support your mission? Money is a big deal and it already sounds like she’s using it to her advantage which is to build a strong frame (eg house, lifestyle). I’d be very careful to not lose myself in this and in the affluence she’ll bring about. Presumably you have discussed this with her? What will your life look like? With whose friends will you hang out? Will you become an accessory to her fancy lifestyle ? Bad idea. Will she support your mission with her feminine energy and maybe with some cash (and network?) too? Good idea.

It's a turnoff you are asking for that sum at all, after all the luxuries she already afforded you. You will be easily able to save that yourself over the years being married to somebody that wealthy.

If so - it sounds like she is being generous with her money while with you. From a practical standpoint, you'll be able to save your income in your bank/investment accounts at a far more rapid rate than if you were single (she's paying for housing, vacations, etc.). You should easily be able to build your net worth.

See a lawyer and ask if you have kids does this prenup still hold water. As in once you have kids and seperate and you get the kids 1/2 the time. Would you be up for money from her as in a good chunk of support?

Depending on your country / state pre ups are not worth much and judges break them up in support of what’s best for the kids. Especially in countries like Australia I’d see a lawyer at a minimum for advice.

I have a similar situation. My wife comes from money, I come from poverty. She’s gonna inherit $3-5 million, I’ll inherit a $50k cabin in the woods.

My wife and I do not have a prenup. She brought it up before marrying but I simply stated that I don’t give a damn about money and if she insisted on a prenup than we weren’t right for each other.

That said, my wife’s trust has helped immensely. Our house is in the trust. Our kids education is in the trust. The fact that I do not have a prenup has been an enormous protection for me. While all the men of MRP gripe about divorce rape, I would likely experience the opposite.

I’m not recommending my path to you, I just wanted to give an alternate perspective to most of the comments here.
