Recently I decided to sell my house, buy a new one and change jobs. I'm not an entrepreneur but I'm in b2b sales and it's high pressure, high reward.

I sat my wife down and gave her the speech. "listen, this is going to suck. Embrace the suck."

I outlined all the shit that was coming. Where I'd need her to up her contributions and what my expectations are. I'm clear in what I expect of her and when I need help I enlist her. She is my FO and if need be I will send her into battle armed and dangerous. But in her eyes the mission is clear.

Maybe your wife doesn't understand what your mission is? Enlist your first officer and give her clear duties to support your mission. My wife is constantly asking "what can I do to help?"

I spent about two years at 30-45k a year.

My two pieces of advice:

Getting paying clients is job 1. Everything else is masturbation. Sell it, then build it.
High ticket.
No one will believe in you until you have a proven track record - AKA when you don’t need their help.

Yeah I hear you, I work in IT and most people think you push a few buttons and magic happens.

The reality is that competition is huge and this stuff eventually may snowball into something bigger but you have to think about what you can make to sell i.e. digital content that can be copied and resold with ease or service based subscription stuff. I know affiliate marketing is still a thing as to if small startups can bring in enough traffic to make it work... I doubt it easily.

Think about the time you have to invest for what you get out. You may be better off flogging your unwanted stuff on eBay as I'm on this at the moment and going well

I buy wood bench planes, do them up, sharpen them and resell. Beats the fuck out of drumming the keyboard plus I have a weird obsession with sharpening stuff.

I have a couple of businesses, one similar, plus I'm heavily involved in trading derivatives (stock options) in a speculation account- high reward but high risk. My wife knows about all of this, and my options trading has me up 400%+ since Jan 1, but it's a bumpy road. Imagine sitting down chatting with the wife and chatting about an open position where you're in the middle of a downswing but the forecast looks good and you are still up almost 300% in 2 months. Her response is "I don't want to lose another dime if we don't have to" and mild anxiety about the future. Phenomenal performance doesn't matter, any minor failure does.

No matter how good you are doing, any sign of weakness counts against you far more than signs of success.

I've never had anything close to a DB, I'm in an informal d/s relationship with her, but at the end of the day AWALT.

Businesses don't just start out of the blue. They require significant up front investment of time, labour, energy, etc.

There is no return in the beginning. In fact, there is negative return for a long, long time. The biggest dis incentive to starting a business is being married and/or having a family. Probably 25% of the general population would like to start a business but "can't" because they have responsibilities.

But it isn't that they have responsibilities. Because most of these people have the financial resources to swing starting a business. The issue is that they don't have the support of their spouse. In fact, their domestic life will turn to hell if they start a business. I've seen it happen many times.

For a woman, there is no upside for her provider to start a business. If he fails, they go broke, or at least lose money. If he succeeds, his status climbs 4 notches and she gets left behind. To say nothing of the financial stress, less attention from the husband, etc.

Most women, if they have a good provider and if he is BP enough to be working his ass off for her, have 80% of everything they want. They don't need a larger house. They just want to sit on the couch, watch TV and spin their hamster. Having a driven husband doesn't give her a lot more.

This creates huge problems for entrepreneurs. The best time to start a business is when you are single. Then it doesn't matter to anyone but you if you work too much, go broke, become rich, etc.

There is nothing worse than being an entrepreneur with an unsupportive or critical wife. The only thing that makes it worse is when the family and friends are unsupportive and critical too. You'll spend your day fighting all the usual start up problems and then come home to more abuse, complaining and criticism than you can imagine. Even though you are trying to do something that will be of great benefit to your family in the long run.

I don't have a solution for you. I'm separated now and working on a fantastic venture and it is going well. I have first hand experience of what it is like to be criticized versus working in peace and quiet. The difference is stunning. It is so much better to come home to quiet time alone than have to deal with an unsupportive spouse.

There is another aspect that you probably haven't thought of yet. Her appreciation if you are successful. Say you work your ass off for 2 years and get things going well. And she is bitchy and unsupportive the whole time. At that point even if she becomes nice to you, you are going to regret her, or worse. Because when you were working all out, partially for her even, she was working against you. And when you make it she gets all warm and nice ? It takes a big man to forgive that.

And don't forget that she gets half of everything you create. I've seen guys build businesses from scratch, initiate divorce and then not be able to afford to buy their half of the business from their spouse because of a high valuation.

Wanted to make another point:

This post hit home with me. When my first ebook started selling on amazon, that’s when I told her about it. She was happy and very impressed and told her friends that I wrote a book and it’s selling online.

Multiple times, her friends asked me how I did it - considering I have a full time job and have 3 young kids, etc..

Well, I’ll never forget the first time I tried to explain it. I told them I didn’t write it all in one sitting. I spread it out over the course of 2 years! I wrote like 1/4 of a page per day , and at the end of 2 years, I had a 250 page book, etc. Well, the look on their faces, especially my wife’s face, was a look of disgust. Sheer bitter taste in their mouths. They dispised my explanation. Looked at me like I was sick.

It was almost like I disappointed her view on me. They couldn’t comprehend the amount of work and dedication it took to do something like that.

Like I said before, women don’t understand hard work. They can’t see the finished product beyond its current appearance. They think that you either have the talent to do it or not, there is no in between. There’s no way that you can make up in numbers that you lack in skill, you have the ability or not. That’s how they think.

By me telling them “how” I wrote that book, I shattered their paradox. They really just thought I sat down one day and wrote it from start to finish in one sitting. From that point on, whenever my wife mentions my side business of ebooks, and people ask me about it, I just say that I’m good at it- likes it’s no big deal. I don’t even break a sweat. Everyone is happy.

Goes back to the basic tenants of the red pill:

The only thing that matters to a woman is another woman. Everything she does, from the makeup, clothes, fashion, all of it is in service to her need to be a above other women. A man is the ultimate tool of a woman’s manipulation because he can provide resources and value intrinsic in being an alpha. You are a tool to her, one that drives her hamster and her ascent over other women.

Your LOVE means nothing to her. She doesn’t want to be loved. She wants to be validated by value.

Her watching you working hard on your side business without making any money is interpreted as failure to her. There is no hard work, you either have the talent or not. You obviously don’t have it if you aren’t making any money... the nagging begins.

Get out her frame.

Don’t announce your plans. Just do it. She will never be impressed by your hard work. Make it look easy. Game the fuck out of her.

My wife has been supporting the family as I complete my BCC (Board Certified Coach) credential and it is a constant battle. It doesn't matter if she makes enough money by herself to support 3 families, women hate to see their men pursuing anything that does not contribute to them or the family. Studies show that women even hate it when their man is happy and prefer him to be in pain and on edge because it shows that he cares about the relationship or some hamster or other.
