The assertion in this FAQ that privilege is something wholly conferred by social status rather than by any individual accomplishment is a perfect example of the fundamental bigotry of feminism. Men are never treated as individuals by feminism, rather they treated as a see less whole, a borgified collective. Power and status weilded by one man is cast as being weilded by all men, and crimes committed by one man are cast as being committed by all.

This tendency to see people not as individuals but simply as representatives of their class, religion, race, or gender is the essence of all forms of bigotry. You should tell your flat mate to stop being such a bigot. You should remind her that not all men benefit from the power weilded by the few men who have it. You remind her that carrying on about 'male privilege' while fewer men than women are winning college degrees, and more men than women face unemployment, is asinine and offensive.

Ask her what would be the outcome of hiring hundreds of thousands of men with PhDs around the world to sit in universities and imagine up arguments as to how men are treated poorly relative to women. Suggest to her that those ideas dreamed up by such, ahem, academics, would then be taught to younger men, some of whom would be encouraged by law and financial incentives to buy into the theories promoted.

surely they have a discussion of female privilege and what should be done about it... nope. there's no such thing as female privilege, only "benevolent sexism", and they apparently see no problem with it.

apparently, women receive no institutional privileges. when women win the vast majority of child custody cases, it's not an institutional privilege; no, that's still oppressive of women because it assumes that women are only good for child care. when women are given easier punishments in the criminal justice system, it's not an institutional privilege. when public education is altered to benefit girls at the detriment of boys, it's not an institutional privilege. when far more government grants are provided for medical research of female ailments than male ailments, it's not an institutional privilege. when police departments assume that men are aggressors in domestic dispute calls, it's not an institutional privilege. the existence of female domestic violence shelters and the non-existence of male domestic violence shelters is not an institutional privilege for women. all of this is apparently oppressive to women, even though these changes were brought to fruition through shady feminist lobbying and political coercion over the last few decades.

basically, "institutional privileges for women are not privileges because I say so. There's nothing wrong with exploiting institutional advantages as long as i give it a nice name." the power of denial amazes me.

I'm sorry but the only society wide privilege I've ever seen goes to women and minorities. Affirmative action, discriminatory clubs for every group except mine, being told I'm a potential rapist, and on top of all that being told to check my privilege.

I find it hilarious that someone would use this as an "educational" tool. Like you would just read the list and suddenly say, "Oh my god. I never recognized all my privilege. I will be sure to check it from now on. I apologize for everything I've said up until now," and not say it sarcastically.

These pages are so fucking tedious. Any basic rhetoric course should tell you that less is more.

Though I realize that it's on purpose, or at least unconsciously designed to mislead, misdirect and mystify. They probably realize if they condensed it to two or three paragraphs your averge joe would be able to sniff out the bullshit.
