career man is not really a thing

a career (as opposed to a job) is a profession with an upward trajectory that you stay on.

"career woman" is someone whos PRIMARY mission in life is their career, not family, friends romance etc

A "career person" of either gender is someone who lives to work and puts it above all else. I definitely would not want to date a career man. My husband and I both enjoy having a good work/life balance and we both prioritize family, friends and hobbies over work. I also find people who don't have any interests outside of work to be boring.

I don't really understand the obsession with wanting a SAHM though. All the successful, happy marriages I know had both parties financially contributing (I'm talking people in my parents generation who have been married 25+ years). The marriages I've seen with lifelong SAHPs, usually the breadwinner ends up resenting their spouse. I feel like it only works if it's temporary or if the breadwinner is very wealthy.

My definition of career women is women who focus on their careers more than any other aspect of their life.
Probably not. I was with one before and it did not work out. I think my personality is just not compatible with a career woman’s.

I’m obsessed with that show too, but I am definitely not obsessed over work.

A guy whose career is his passion and primary motivation in life. Home life, family, leisure etc. take a back seat to his career advancement and achievements.

Would you willingly enter a relationship with one? Why?

No. I highly value work/life balance and I want a man who values that as well. I would never, for example, want to move away from my family because my husband needed to relocate for his job. I know people do that kind of thing all the time but it's totally at odds with my values and I wouldn't want to be with someone who didn't see eye-to-eye with me on that. A job is a means to an end, it shouldn't be your whole life.

Career woman is an outdated term to distinguish an ambitious careerist from a more traditional woman who will eventually prioritize family and motherhood above career advancement.

Nowadays, so many women are "career women" that the term has lost its meaning.

A woman that has a profession with an upward trajectory and wants to climb the ladder in said profession. She studies, she takes the time, she enjoys it and/or gets her identity through it.

A CAREER IS NOT A JOB. A job is something you do so you can eat and have a roof over your head.

Would you willingly enter a relationship with one? Why?

I would never. A career woman does not have the time and energy to spend in a relationship with me. Women, all women, want the best their man can provide. Providing that best costs me time and effort. I am not putting all that time and effort to play second fiddle to a career. If I am going to break my back in order to become and stay attractive then I want my partner to put me and the relationship first. Anything less is not worth my effort.

Someone who focuses on their career over all else - puts in long hours at the office, doesn't have a good home/work balance. He may or may not have a family, but he doesn't see them much anyway.

I do like having a partner with a career, but I'd want him to at least take a little time off here and there. My partner works different hours than me (me days, him nights) but we have at least one weekend day together and one weeknight where we can hang out. I'm pretty good at filling my time when he isn't home with friends, family, and hobbies.

A woman who puts 100% of her energy and time into her career.

To some men here that’s what a career woman is. To others, it means “I hate women who out earn me” or “I hate women who wont be submissive and stay home and shit out my children.”

I’m married to a high earner who loves his work but he’s not a career man. He works to live not the opposite. When I stayed at home he was laser focused on moving up the ladder but I saw that he wasn’t really happy. I prefer him doing a job he likes and coming home at night and being a hands on father and having time to do things we want to do.

I think some of “career women/men” rhetoric comes from people who don’t really understand what its like at the top in corporate America. It’s playing politics, scheming and putting out fires all day every day to protect your turf and your huge salary and knowing that at any time you could get thrown to the wolves just because they can. A lot of people have no desire to live that lifestyle.

Female. I think I lean purple but can delve in all shades of blue. I think of a "career man" as someone who is driven by high satisfaction in his work- not just putting in hours for a paycheck but someone putting his mind and soul into a purpose in addition to his self and his family. Someone who wants to go to work and is energized by it. I can't imagine ever dating someone who isn't a career man.

1) mostly red see flair 2) “career woman” a la TRP means a typically urban dwelling yuppie working 10+ hour days 5+ days a week with little to no free time and who’s identity revolves heavily/entirely around her career. 3) no I would not. She wouldn’t have time for me, likely develop “hard” personality traits and in general my word for both genders of these people is “striver faggots” who invest their whole lives into making someone else rich and somehow perceive virtue in work, which is a means to an end not a value

A career man has never crossed my mind like is it supposed to be a guy that really likes money or something? Men aren't really looked down upon for being successful and not caring about others.
I mean a work/life balance is ideal but if we're talking extremes, i'd take the man that has ambition and drive over a man child.

Under that definition...no. I wouldn't date such a person. Its a pretty restrictive definition and I think there aren't that many people it would apply to though.
