A theory: men are attracted to a more diverse group of features in women. This, not hypergamy as defined by RP, is the reason for differences in selection choice on dating apps.

I don’t believe the woman that is turning down 80% of men is purely motivated by superficial interests. I believe she likely does have a kind heart, and is looking for a meaningful relationship in addition to physical attraction, just like most men. The only difference is that features that are seen as generally attractive are more narrow for females. They want someone that will make them feel safe period. This is the essence of their raw physical attraction. Men are muuuuuch more free with who they would pursue. It is said that men are natures lab rats. There is more variation amongst men in most measures. This is not to say that men flat out won’t reject anyone, but I believe the standard deviation for generally attractive features is much larger for men. Women are not monsters, but increased freedom in mate selection has made a natural imbalance. Men need to accept that most men in life will not find a mate.
