it works on literally everyone if done correctly.

most dudes who fuck it up do so by being incongruent. they're normally typical white knight beta NiceGuys but then they read about "negging" on the internet and think this one simple trick is the key to getting women. so he goes out and drops a "neg" on the girl he is orbiting and it fails completely because his insult seems totally random, socially uncalibrated, and completely incongruent with his normal pedestalizing behavior. the end result is that he seems even less attractive.

compare that to Chad, who never pedestalizes women because he is so overconfident and self-centered, understands social norms well, and is always lightheartedly teasing everyone. he can lightly tease a girl in a way that leads to flirty banter, or he can drop a solid neg on her that knocks her down a peg and makes her start seeking his approval.

also note that these women in your "female chat groups" are basically trying to neg each other by humblebragging about how many guys are hitting on them and how smart and cool they are for identifying a guy trying to use PUA tricks and shooting him down.

Ultimately it's a great filter/shit-test.

If someone is still interested after a "negging", they're really interested.

When someone is truly interested I've found they'll forgive a lot.

That's the kind of scenario I prefer. I don't want to walk on eggshells. Why would I when I could just be with someone so interested they'll accept a bit of ribbing?

There's ways of doing it more skillfully that increase the odds of having toed the line successfully between achieving the signaling benefit and going too far into insult territory, but at the end of the day, it's a great way to filter out time wasters.

I used to go on Omegle when I was like 14 and everything on there is a neg to challenge girls into exposing themselves in some way.

I would never flash a dude, but I always felt the need to prove myself somehow when guys were negging me there.

I'll come out and say that when done well, it works on me.

For some background: I grew up with two older brothers who teased me relentlessly. As a result I developed a very self-deprecating sense of humor and a perception that men tease out of affection. I don't mind being the butt of a good-natured joke or a lighthearted insult as long as it's done in good fun and doesn't cross any lines into ACTUALLY insulting me. It's fun and funny to me.

I dunno, but I remember when I read about PUA stuff way way back in the day. One day I was at the bar and I caught the attention of a girl and I said "nice earrings ... did you get them from your grandma?" and she was like WOW WHO IS THIS GUY!? because men just didn't do that shit back then.

And then a few years ago I was at a work event and some of the young guys were just goofing on the young ladies and teasing them, and they were giggling and loving every second of it. So maybe this kind of thing has just become normalized to some degree and it only stands-out when it is a real backhanded diss. Like if a guy feels like he's being rejected on a dating app and drops a neg, that obviously not going to work.

Negging, cock/funny and other similar techniques work if and only if the guy pulls off the execution with confidence. If done right it comes off as playful teasing. Some might be shocked that what amounts to being lightly insulting would work, but think of the opposite; the beta who puts woman on a pedestal, worshiping the ground she walks on, and providing a stream of never ending compliments...this should work right? After all he’s being nice and sweet! Except it doesn’t because it implies submission and being of lower status than the woman, which is intrinsically unattractive. 9/10 times women go for men they perceive to be better than them because hypergamy is all about climbing the later not going down or making a lateral move. So why does negging work? Because the man is basically implying that he’s better/of greater SMV than the woman.
