IN REGARDS TO trp, I've been lurking for a year, read the whole side bar and am generally acquainted with the conceptual framework here. I have a question.

If we think about men and women as these fixed roles we gotta play, or ideals we gotta achieve, to become a "real man" or "real woman", and, in the case of men, to be logical, stoic, hard-nosed, centered, to serve as financial, emotional supply for women. Well now: isn't this what we ALL want in a partner anyway? Isn't this the description of a PERFECT character?

What I mean by this is men are human. We fuck up, we're ugly, sometimes have no money or social skills.

When we try and paint the character of this perfect woman, who is not promiscuous, who is housewife and so on, her own proficiency in playing that role of a "perfect woman" in society's (and our own) standards demands your own proficiency in playing your own role of "perfect man". Good luck trying to play games, having no money, being sad eventually, all around when you can't achieve her impossible expectations.

I agree that men and women have some differences, but I don't believe they're fundamental to their nature. Saying what a true man looks like already makes his very existence impossible.
