History was written by men, so the gender war has been told from men's perspective until recent times. In reality I don't think women are any more "evil" than men. Men used their physical strength and propensity for violence for destruction whereas women used what they had, the power of seduction and emotional manipulation due to their supposed higher emotional intelligence. As strong as men were physically, they would have been vastly inferior to women when it came to emotional intelligence. Also, the kind of men who would have had the time to complain about women would have been incels who had been hurt by women in some way. The content men would have been the silent majority perhaps.

Men like to blame others for their shortcomings. (They are more prone to externalising failures than women who tend to internalise them). Hence concepts like "Evil Temptresses" instead of "Weak Will'.

Thing is, misogyny exists for a reason: it helped ancient civilization thrive for thousands of years before records began.

To have the benefits of civilization, the society needs rigid discipline to survive. And Sparta survived eight hundred years. Rigid discipline requires a strict hierarchy. Roles within the hierarchy are best left independent of choice.

A successful ancient civilization needs a highly stratified society, from top to bottom. Youngest kid is lowest, and all kids are below mother, who is below father, who is below the village elders, who are below the local petty lord, and so on for several more layers until you get to the overlord of the civilization.

Nothing else works. Democracy failed in Athens after barely two centuries.

Greater emotional range I'd say. Also I think a lack of physical and political power lead some women who wanted to rise to rise through manipulation, deceit and use of their own desirability. Cleopatra is a good example.

Seeing as there's not a lot of talk on the average woman the stories come from the women who achieved power in some form. Those stories were analysed and used for the judgments. Not all that different to now when some claim men as the root of all evils.

They used to know something that we have forgotten. Perhaps, those cultures were based on the ashes of previous, more advanced civilizations that had destroyed themselves through unrestricted hypergamy. Over time, the more nuanced message of balancing human nature with social control just got degraded into simple misogyny in the simplistic view of the descendant cultures you mention.

I think it's because women are physically attractive. Being physically attractive provoked men to sin. Lets not forget, we are talking about history, and in the history that you are referencing, religion was heavily ingrained in many, if not all, of the societies that demonised the female gender.

So, a woman was inherently evil because her looks encouraged men to sin. A man, on the other hand, was only evil if he chose to do something that was evil.

Women were (maybe still are) more symbolic of sexuality than men. It's symbolism becoming intertwined with culture, projected on to actual traits of people. So when sexuality became more 'policed' by culture, it was women who became the 'sinful temptresses' because of male desire. A basic equivalent is a young man blaming a woman for his arousal simply for her presence.

The story of Helen of Troy is to some a tale of how women inspire men to action, often great actions and (more modernly) to some a story of how a woman is man's downfall. The latter is like simplifying Helen of Troy as a tale of extreme oneitis rather than a complex myth of human competition and Fate.

In general why do you think women used to be singled out as the "evil gender" before feminism?

Men were just as demonized though out history, and had a certain role to play, for example in ancient Rome men without wives had additional taxes

Going back in history there were civilization were if a man couldn't please a women he would be thrown into a crowd of people and if he couldn't get hard he would be killed.

Demonizing the male gender is a new phenomenon

Old as the earth, but you see history is often taught by feminist so all we have is feminist theory and they carefully skip over female privileges.

For example lets take war, feminist say Benevolent sexism, even though you can't be benevolent by being forced to do something, they simply erased male suffering

What you wrote comes from a very modern perspective - these old stories demonized men constantly, they just held men up as heroes just as much. You remember Cain?

If you read most of theses stories, let's put it on a -10 to +10 scale:
- Women: always between -5 to 0
- Men: ranged between -10 to +10

I think if you could somehow average out characters on a "good vs evil" scale, you'd find that men and women in the stories always averaged about -3 (all of them averaged together).

Even the "heroes" in biblical stories where filled with flaws, sins, bad thoughts, etc.

I think other women helped, women haven't always been the nicest to one another, especially to competitive and attractive women. Women were looked at as snakes because people didn't understand sex through any other lens but a religious one. People thought demons gave them the urge to fuck.
