A lot of TRP theory is about how women don't act how they really feel, and that men should respond how a woman really feels rather than how she tells them she feels.
I've found this text in another sub, about a woman reacting to the advances of two men at their workplace. To avoid the usual brigading I'm not linking to the text, just quote it here.
So, my question: Do you guys believe that the men in this text (John and Devin) are acting according to RP philosophy and/or utilizing RP philosophy to achieve success in their relationship with this woman?
After working the same job for over a year, I've started to get to know some of my coworkers better. The problem is, two of them are starting to get on my nerves with how they interact with me.
It started with John asking me out on a date. I turned him down because I don't date in the workplace and we're at entirely different positions in life. He said okay, we're still going to be friends and I thought everything was good.
We started hanging out at lunch time on a regular basis, and eventually his friend Devin joined us. Devin and John have been friends for a while, and he seemed to think we ought to be together-- whenever he came around, he would constantly refer to us as "love birds" and make comments about how cute we were together. I verbally told him not to do this three times, citing that there were NO romantic feelings on my end and he was encouraging something that I had already told John was not going to happen. Each time, Devin would say okay and then continue.
Eventually I confronted him again and said that I did not appreciate him putting me in this position with my coworker. I told him that under no circumstances is he to do it again, because it seems John is now getting the idea that I'm interested based on these comments. John had started trying to rest his head on my shoulder/put his arms around me-- each time with me shutting it down.
Devin told me that my body language was the problem-- not his encouragement. By joking around in the office, having lunch (IN A GROUP) that included John, and acting friendly, he apparently has been telling Devin that I'm "clearly interested" and he's "making progress". Devin said that maybe if I changed my body language, it would stop.
So while I didn't see anything misleading about my behaviour, and while I had already explicitly stated I wasn't interested, I decided I'd try to be more serious and focus on getting to know other people at the table. John approached me before lunch the next day and asked me why I wasn't willing to date. Again, I reiterated that I was not interested in a romantic relationship with a coworker and it wasn't going to happen.
I thought after that, the issue would be resolved. I had (hopefully) stopped the comments from Devin and John was again reminded that I was not not interested in a romantic relationship with him.
Not. We ended up going to a company dinner several nights ago. John repeatedly contacted me, asking me if I was going, if I was going to drink, telling me I should have money for a cab so I can get drunk with him, and so on...I told him no, that I was not going to be doing anything like that at a work function, and especially not with people I didn't know well. I should have read this as a sign things were not going to improve...
Devin and John teamed up and spent the whole night "analyzing my body language" and telling me how my facial expression meant I was interested, the way I sat meant I was annoyed/being judgemental, etc...How it was "hard" for guys in their line of work to work with pretty girls like me, and how I should be sympathetic to the fact that they're just trying to read the signals that women give off so we can be friends. Apparently it is wrong of me to expect them to listen to me when I explicitly state I don't like something, because my body language supposedly disagrees with my words.
I am at a loss for what to do here. I'm disgusted with the way they are ignoring my words and picking me apart to look for ~signs~ and I'm utterly disgusted by how they are defending the behaviour. I took some time off work (yay, vacation!) and since coming back, Devin has been contacting me about how John feels I've cut him out of my life, etc. since I have not made any effort to speak to him since that night.
I know it sounds silly, but it's starting to make me anxious. I feel like they're paying an uncomfortable amount of attention to me and like they expect me to keep responding to the behaviour/spending time with them. How do I close off this workplace interaction? How can I articulate my frustrations in a way they might understand?
TL/DR: getting to know my coworkers; they keep making comments on my "body language" misleading them. Apparently I give off vibes of being interested/I'm being unreasonable by getting uncomfortable because they are just trying to understand women.
