Thing is, a lot of the people here who have a more or less redpill agree, and keep in mind all of which he said.

The problem is with those who still haven't taken control of their lives - they'll come to this post, see what he wrote, become motivated for the next day or two, then back to normal.

Those points are extremely important, and I admire his stoicism - but to those of you reading who haven't taken control of your life yet - remember that reading some post on the internet won't do shit for you, you have to actually put it into action.

Wallstreetplayboys said it best, motivation is for the weak.

As did Elliott Hulse.

[–]seducer4real1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Something in relation to this that I have been thinking about is: If what you just said is the case plus other countless occasions i have noticed stories of people and people in general who become motivated for a little while then go back to normal, doesn't that make perseverance the most important trait for a red piller to have, or anyone for that matter?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yes, dedication and work ethic are the best traits one can develop.

[–]1xwm2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes, dedication and work ethic are the best traits one can develop

Have any good tips on this? I've been much better about this lately, but its something I still have a long way to go on before I'm satisfied.

Put a positive spin on everything you do. Something like this may be deserving of its own post but I'll elaborate a bit here.

Instead of saying "I have to do something" say "I get to do something".

"I get to lift." You'll be more grateful and seize every opportunity you cab.

"I get to approach this beautiful woman" it'll be an enjoyable experience and if it goes negatively you feel less like you missed out because you did everything you could with the opportunity.

"I get to work hard today and further my business prospects/skills/network." Rising to the top no longer is something you are upset and complain about, but actually the act of work becomes intrinsically rewarding.

Just by choosing to tell yourself that something you do is an opportunity, a blessing, a gift, you no longer complain about it's outcome or the effort involved. This helps you stay dedicated until the end and keep going forward.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a math teacher that always told us that "we didn't have to do anything, we got to." He instilled a good work ethic in me at least, that way. Looking back on it, dude was pretty RP himself. He used to be close friends with my old man, I wonder how he's doing now.

[–]onenifty3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do a little bit of what you need to do every single day. Start with 10 minutes, but at least do something. It's super easy to do 10 minutes, but you'll probably fall into a groove and all of a sudden you're an hour in. Do that a few days, a few weeks in a row and all of a sudden you have not only a habit, but a track record of success to keep you dedicated to continued success.

Make doing the goal, not necessarily finishing the task, and it'll be a lot easier to stick with it initially as you win just by putting in the time, even if you don't finish what you wanted to do.

[–]_the_shape_1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Keep repeatedly doing whatever you want to become habit until you reach the point where you feel (at least) mildly restless about when you are going to do it again. For example, I took up running in the Summer of 2013, and now go running no less than 3 times a week, usually 4-5 times a week. At this point, I actually feel like something is 'missing' if I don't go running for more than, say, 3 days in a row (which has only happened a few times since taking up running in order to rest up my shins - I get shin splints constantly) This is the level you want to reach. You have to condition your mind to crave it, whatever "it" is for you.

[–]OneTouchHowMuch0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

become motivated for the next day or two, then back to normal.

That's why motivation is like bathing, it's required daily.

[–]bookhockey242 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or substitute discipline for motivation. Discipline is habitual adherence to an activity regardless of motivation, mood, or environment. If there is one skill you should cultivate to become a better man in every way, it is discipline.

When everything else is taken from you, discipline is what will carry you through.

[–]Fentrix1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I more think of discipline as adherence to a behavior. The behavior might be an activity, or it may be something else.

[–]EmperorAurelius0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Easier said then done though.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can 100% succeed at something you don't like. Its called willpower. I'm living proof.

[–]likechoklit4choklit8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

True. So fucking true.

But why? You should only apply your limited time to the things that advance greater happiness for you, your family and friends, and your society (in descending order of importance). I understand that some markets need hands and minds, even disinterested ones, so it can be profitable to lend one's talents to things that one is uninterested in. I would posit, however, that for every artist that wound up becoming a plumber, that those 40 hours a week spent earning a living better be purloined into your non-work hours as high quality life, otherwise you are a shell of what you could be. There is a blooming world around us that needs to be both preserved and fully enjoyed because our most potent economic scarcity isn't money; it's seconds of life.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Things you don't like can be more profitable, the profit can enable you to live comfortably and do the things you do like.

If you like doing sports like mountain climbing, white water kayaking, whatever, you won't make a lot of money doing it as a career, practically live like a pauper, and whenever your body gets damaged or too old then that's it and you have to quit.

Meanwhile the guy who loves mountain climbing but makes a ton of money doing something else hires the guy doing what he loves as a sherpa to carry his shit and if the guy with more money breaks his leg on the mountain he's not going to find himself unable to make money or going destitute.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wondered if someone else saw RP in his post. A real shame for what shit luck he's had, but those words really resonated with me. His stoicism gave me chills, honestly. Makes me glad I took the pill and I now create my own happiness. They're simple words really, but we get caught up sometimes in the world and trying to get laid, succeed financially etc and lose sight of the big picture which is; you only get one shot and you don't know when it's going to be over, so you'd better do your damndest to make it a good one and waste as little time as possible, cause as we all know: Time is our most valuable asset and it shouldn't be wasted.

Godspeed gentlemen.

[–]Trisha_Hill2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Im really happy this was posted here because i couldnt really react like what i will say here.. dont shoot me... i read the post - really liked it - really do.

But i have a hard time taking motivation of this guy. I know he has cancer and i know he has a limited time on this world, which makes me sad- i really do... but in my life i've met a lot of people and had a lot of experiences and a big rule i found out is - "take advice from people with a set of life-skills" i mean some older guys who did and saw some shit happening in the world. This guy is 24 - should be his prime of his life... i just dont feel it...

I know this will get some backlash - thats why i didnt say anything on the other sub - thats why i post this here.. think about it for a sec before trowing shit at me.

[–]New_Horiz0ns1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You won't get berated here. TRP is amoral.

I don't share your point of view however I can understand where you are coming from.

[–]Modredpillschool1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feel good but not particularly red pill.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just listen to the OP of the x-post. Let's experience death through his. And we'll live everyday as if we're dying.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So easy for a dying kid with cancer to say live life outside of the rat race. I'm cynical.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I really enjoyed this post but as a high school student, how can I get decent grades if I don't do my work, because the class doesn't interest me?

[–]oWild_Bill24 points25 points26 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You need to look beyond the instant gratification and see the bigger picture. At this point in your life, you shouldn't worry about whether or not the High School class you are in interests you - fucking Ace the class and move on to the next. Devour school. Devour challenges.

[–]likechoklit4choklit1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A lot of redpill comes from the weird dynamics from highschool. There is no time of your life where you will see more alpha or beta behaviors, as teens tend to be at their most masculinized and feminized as they parrot the social expectations around them. The "beta problem" is that men haven't really been given a solid framework for relationships in this new world where we understand gender dynamics, birth control, and safe sex. We are at a crossroad, right now, on the other side of the civil rights and women's rights movements, where all sexual relationships are influenced by social factors that have never existed in anytime in our evolutionary and cultural history. Anyway, in highschool, there is a ton of pressure to act like a man, and everyone is using masculinity to make you do the things they want you to do. The definition of masculinity has been sliced and diced by vested interests to the point where fist fighting over a spot in line is socially expected, not getting up for someone else is seen as strength, drinking mountain dew will make you fun and desirable, having a chick that other people think is hot is important for your self worth, not jumping off a roof will make you a pussy, making fun of gay people will bolster you because they are men who behave "womanly" and what could be more detestable as a man, defending gay people will make you manly because you had the strength to disagree with that last idea. So now, as a high schooler, you are being fed all kinds of shit about how to be the best man you can be; meanwhile other kids are trying to justify short term gain at the expense of long term goals and those kids get far more sexual access than young men who tend to demonstrate more restraint for long term gain. Those guys seem assertive where the long game behavior is not seen as assertive, despite having to turn down beers, pass on sexual access with girls who seem like distractions, refusing to fuck around with certain drugs: because all of those behaviors aren't seen as "active" or "assertive" (therefor manly) decisions by others. That said, highschool is actually an optional thing. If you have a direction that you want to go in, you are free to go after it, but you have to weigh the value of what you lost by not graduating high school.

You see this on redpill all the time. Some redpill dudes are just christian dads who like structure and who believe that there is a common general trend for female behavior. Some redpill dudes are men's rights dudes who feel like for all the feminism and egalitarianism espoused, why do our legal levers behave differently for different sexes; if you want equality, fight for equality. Some redpill dudes are just young men taught by mothers, girlfriends, other guys how a fair and loving relationship is supposed to work... but then those guys shacked up with the first or best piece of pussy interested in them, and surprize, she wasn't a partner that was worth a shit because she was feminized to the point of being a self indulgent child, so of course she cheated on them. And it is that last bunch that tend to skew young, early college/ highschool young.

[–]GV1911 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You have to suck it up, I'm studying to become a doctor, however I still had to take a sociology class, do you think I liked it? Hell no, but I sucked it up and got an A, that's just what you have to do.

[–]MrMontage10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's bullshit, life is a grind and so is work. Learn to grind.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This post doesn't apply specifically to every aspect of life. If you want to get into a good college, you need good grades, even if you don't like the class.

The problem with these kinds of positivist generalities is that they often ignore the more complex situations of life in favor of cover all, quotable solutions. Often times, we benefit from delayed gratification (exercise is a prime example). Think of your classes like a workout. Even if you're not into it, you're doing it for a larger future goal.

[–]heal_thyself5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Like MrMontage said, it's a grind. Just grind through it, and get it done. It's a means to an end, whatever that might be for you.

I'm 29, did shit in high school, dropped out of community college, work a dead end job and have fuck all to show for the last 11 years of work. Several high school friends are in finance, more are in engineering. They all have great jobs, nice cars and are looking to get houses soon. A lot of them are married, but no kids with any of them. They sucked up the shit classes because they had to, and because of that, they're going to have decent lives ahead of them.

Don't be me. It sucks. Trust me.

[–]heal_thyself1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Basically, "fuck the rules, they don't apply to me". Boy was I wrong.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's me. I just can't stay concentrated with school work.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even the classes that suck contribute to your GPA which is the single number by which you will be judged as a HS grad, especially if you aspire to college. There are pointless classes and terrible teachers, but none of that shows up in the number. When you find yourself dreading a class or some homework, you just have to remind yourself that it's just a piece of the puzzle that can't be skipped.

Our phrase for this growing up was "check the box." As in, "to get to where you want to go, there's a checklist and you just have to check the boxes." That's how I'd look at the uninteresting classes/teachers, as a box to check and then move on.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because in high school it's really hard to see the cause-effect relationship of hard work to results. When you clean your room, it's hard work, but you end up with a nice tidy room. With high school work, it's years before you see the benefit.

Just remind yourself that your life will be worlds better than your peers if you're financially successful right out of school. You need to work hard now to claim that later. Just keep that prize in the back of your mind.

[–]1RPB11 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do what you gotta do. Only boys and bitches whine about things they don't want to do, men just nut up and get it done anyway.

High school isn't about education, it's about indoctrinating people out of original thinking and into reflexively obeying authority to sustain a docile work force.

That said, there is immense value in learning to complete something you don't want to do. Life isn't all entertainment. Doing your work in order to challenge yourself to be disciplined is a personal skill that can be leveraged in every aspect of life. Think of it as an obstacle to be crushed. Do everything well, not just what you like. This is how excellence is created.

School is bullshit (knowledge isn't), but unless you have the ability to drop out and start your own business then it's best to grind it out instead of being a slacker early in life. Procrastination and apathy creates a kind of momentum into stagnation.

There are geniuses out there for which formal education is insufficient or has no value, but unless you're that kind of savant then suck it up and buckle down. Your older self will thank you.

[–]vipernick9131 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Just look at the bigger picture like others have suggested. It's one class, even if you don't like it. Study and get it over with to your next obstacle. I'm in medical school. Even though some classes don't interest me much, looking at the bigger picture which is finishing up eases me and I get through it to go on to the next step closer.

[–]pms777-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. That's why none of the motivational one liners don't work.

[–]Axoc0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

4547 upvotes 0 downvotes.

Holy shit. That's an insane ratio. It makes me think about how many people agree with RP ideology but once it has been given the name, "Red Pill", they hate it because they are so focused on its demonized image.

I honestly think that this, "Purple Pill" is the worst mindset. Anybody who has half of both worlds will find TRP, think "damn I already believe this" and leave because they think we can't teach them anything.

I'd prefer TRP gets discovered by a BP who feels out of control of his life than a PP who feels like the tiny amount of control in his life is just enough for him.

All that karma and 26x reddit gold, gone to waste. What a shame.

[–]SteelChicken12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All reddit karma is a waste.

[–]Haus_of_Klaus3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, because Reddit karma and gold are important in life. Because what random strangers think of your anonymous thoughts is paramount. What a shame he couldn't hold on to that account and show his friends how much he won at life because of that meaningless bullshit.

Jesus fucking Christ, that's what you took out of this?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It was a joke. A poor one but you're taking it a bit literally.

[–]Newdist20 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Partly a joke. Yeah, I'm an asshole.

Partly an expression that male life is cheap. I read the archived thread, feels and emotions and resolutions everywhere. I didn't see, "Wow OP, what a waste that someone as obviously talented as you is dying so young."

Partly I think the whole thing is karma whoring on a throwaway account. A creative writing exercise with an inspirational message.

A best advice to guys just entering their 20s:

Limit each job you have to 3 years tops, unless you are completely head over heels in love with it.

Every loser I know got a job and stuck with it and are now stuck.

Dont be those guys. Get your money, get out, and use the money to get to a better station in life, then repeat.
