I earned an MBA from a top institution and frankly 95% of it was a waste of time. If I didn't have the fellowship which covered my tuition I would have been pretty pissed at the waste of money. Of course this is coming from an engineer so finance, economics, and data analysis were extremely easy since they needed to dumb the math down for the non-engineers. Then you have marketing which is mainly common sense. The only valuable aspects were the connections and talking to entrepreneurs about their experiences.

Honestly the better and much cheaper method is to read and talk to people that are successful.

This is the biggest load of garbage I have read in a while. You take cheap shots at professors and try to peddle your coupon code for word press. Who actually reads this stuff and finds it useful? Reading books and being productive in your free time is not a substitute for an MBA. Try putting "self-directed MBA" on your resume and you'll end up like that Indian guy who asked Elon Musk for a job.

Allowing everyone to post their blog full of ramblings is bringing down the quality of posts.

Thanks prefacing with this. Everyone on this sub seems to be incredibly anti-college and pro oil rig work. They forget the incredibly high potential salaries high-finance can bring.

But I think this guide is great for everyone, especially those on the wall st. track. Having a high salary and working on passive income streams simultaneously is the perfect plan for financial independence. And hopefully your side business will one day exceed your main career salary -- then you can focus on that.

As an 19 year old little shit, I'd really like to see this kind of content more often. And the best thing here is the discussion about it, either this post is complete bullshit or gold, no fucking circlejerk.

I feel like his thoughts are justified, what is the point in learnings things that you will not benefit from later on? A famous tweet went viral here

"I'm 18 and have no clue how to set up a rent contract, manage my insurance or handle my paperwork. But I can write poem-analyzations . In 4 languages."

This tweet sums up everything. Attending university will probably lead to living a drone life afterwards, because the degree is just a piece of paper millions of people already posess. You're just a number, replacing a retired worker in an environment where everyone is replaceable.

The degree is only the foot in the door, once you are in the shark tank your instincts dictate whether you are branded as a pawn or a leader.

False. Scientifically proven to be false. If you're skilled enough to be in an ivy university, you'd be better off in a non-ivy university. The main focus of Ivy league universities is research, not education. Professors go there to conduct research, and are forced to teach undergraduate courses as a side-kick. Which essentially means you end up with a shit education. Conversely, professors who actually want to cheat choose lower tier universities and you will get more out of your education. Plus, if you're skilled enough to be in an Ivy school, you'd raise above the rest in a lower tier university, which will impress your teachers, possibly earning you an internship or some kind of work.

You seem to be unable to grasp the concept of opportunity cost. You're assuming that your opportunity cost of going to university is high. How so? Not going to uni and reading John Doe's business career blog will not guarantee you that you will make a great startup, grow it into successful lucrative business and prosper. So yeah, the opportunity cost of going to university can be high if you manage to create a lucrative business, which is unlikely.

If, twenty years down the road, you're still working odd jobs and unable to make your "alternative-MBA" scheme work, it is not going to university that has the bigger opportunity cost.

And honestly, if this 'alternative-MBA' career path leads me to only being a blogger that needs to sneak in promotion coupons into his blogposts, count me out.

Taking advice from this blog would be like letting a homeless man do your accounting.

Verdict: This post is fucking trash. Now go flip my burger and give me my coffee because I need to go back to work.

This is not a replacement for an MBA. Any college degree has the sole purpose of proving to an employer that you are worthy of a certain position or certain pay.

Being a successful entrepreneur requires no formal education. They way you have presented this come off somewhat disingenuously. That being said, you have a pretty good reading list there. So despite everything else, I'm probably going to read most of the books on that list that I haven't read yet.
