I don’t want someone who treats everyone badly, but treats me well. I don’t want someone who “will change for me.” I don’t want someone who has no problem hurting and using the women who came before me. I want someone who has always been a good person. And this is what society should glorify, nothing else.

Same. Society has progressed past the need for those type of men and that type of thinking. It is not romantic or sexy if a guy is a douche to everyone but you.

This conditioning that women have to suffer for love starts early. Disney princesses anyone?

Don't forget the toxic-bad boy-"but he's changed.. for ME 😔❤" Wattpad fanfiction era 💀

Right now, the sequel to the movie "after"... Targeting teen girls into accepting and chasing the bad boy who treats them miserably. This is what they want normalized: naive/ innocent young women becoming victims of "love".

Actually, people hate on an easy HEA but I think it's a positive that once the external obstacles are out the way, Disney doesn't really depict much struggle love. The romantic relationships themselves are often easy and unproblematic. It's actually worse that struggle love is equated with "realism" when people in actually healthy relationships aren't fighting all the time and are capable of just supporting each other and being their best selves together.

Bad romance novels in which she has to prove her worth to him. Bad romance novels written by both men and women who didn't do their homework psych-wise. Bad rom-coms. Hollywood. We've seen it glorified in Twilight, we see it glorified in the trend started by 50 shades. Also, since the release of 50 shades, everything "vanilla" or soft or too lovey has been bashed. I wonder why? Secret agenda, anyone? 😒 according to this agenda: love hurts. I used to believe that for a long time. I've been taught that by the books I read and by the movies trending reach year in cinemas and on screen. Time to decondition.

Tried to explain this to someone a few weeks ago. I was met with "well relationships are not supposed to be easy either"
I blocked them not long after this for different reasons.

It can be so frustrating talking to friends who see it like this🙄Like one girl trying to convince me to go to couples therapy over and over. I’m 23 for gods sake!!!! Why should I do this when I’ve been unhappy with him for more than a year?! Thankfully I found FDS when I was almost considering it. I didn’t want to but they made me feel like i didn’t put enough energy in and “relationships take work from both sides”. Yeah they do and most women have been doing the MOST all the while receiving disappointments, emotional unavailability and just so much anxiety and stress with guys who don’t even know what they’re feeling or how to manage their own lives. No thank you! I had to wake up and find this out too, but geez leave women alone who don’t want to be trampled on for a relationship that makes you depressed. It shouldn’t be this hard! currently in the process of finding a new place and getting away from him btw

I treat myself with kindness and respect so I expect the same from others especially in a relationship. Being miserable & unhappy with someone else makes no sense to me.

It’s never too late to make changes. I hope you find happiness, whether in your relationship or out. We all deserve to be happy 🤗 I keep reminding myself how unhappy my LVM would make me. I enjoy the peace more than I miss him.
Good luck!

Turning 26 soon. Same. I don't know though. Sometimes it's really fucking horrible and it sucks, sometimes it's the best thing ever. Idk how to deal

Relationships are supposed to be mostly easy. Save the struggle for conquering new goals at the gym or in the workplace. 💪😁

Do not even have a bad night of sleep because of a man and his behaviors.
Peaceful is so blissful.

Yep. I've heard people say you have to fight to be in a relationship or fight to keep it (whatever) and I was always surprised by the use of the word fight to explain love/relationship. That seems to be a paradox, I'd say.

The only acceptable 'struggle love' is when you adopt a dog or a cat from a shelter and have to work over months to earn their trust and love.
Save your struggle love for pets, not men.

I think “relationships are work” started from a good place. Giving up on a marriage isn’t good when it can be fixed. The problem is that thats been warped to “you can’t give up ever because relationships are work.”
They are but you shouldn’t be fighting fires 24/7/365.
[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with this.
It seems like the two poles on this are “all relationships are battles” and “if he’s your soul mate, you’ll never fight!” Neither of which is healthy, of course, but one certainly is more attainable.
And “fighting” is attention, which seems to be good enough for a lot of people. Like they say, everyone would rather be praised than punished, but they’d rather be punished than ignored. And being praise-worthy is harder.

Why would you bother for 10 seconds in a relationship that makes you feel miserable?

Former therapist told me her friend will stay with a man only until he makes her cry more than 3 times total. If he makes her cry more than that she is gone, no matter what or where in the relationship. It shocked me back than as I was with an abusive narc who made me feel crazy basically everyday and who I let trample all over my life. But it’s so true. No matter what it’s not worth it, because true healthy relationships do not make you feel like this! They feel light, nurturing and stable and make you feel good. Society really had us believing we should be fighting for a mans love 🤡 little girls need to be taught these lessons from the beginning on
