If my title didn't clue you in I'm an aspiring alpha very much still in his beta stage. I just moved into a new apartment and almost immediately I got into a situation that required choosing to be alpha or beta.

I parked in the spot that was closest to my room and got a knock on my door shortly after. The dude wanted me to move my car because I was parked in his wife's spot. I inquired if there was assigned parking because nobody had mentioned this to me before. He then said this: "No, there isn't assigned parking, but since we've been living here for four years that's her spot." Uhhh right. I was pretty pissed about it but I ended up moving it anyway. Old habits die hard.

This was late last night. I thought about it all during the day and came to the conclusion that I was going to purposely park in that spot again. I knew I shouldn't have moved it the night before and this was simply a pissing competition; who's the more dominant?

Sure enough, I got another knock on my door tonight. This time it was the wife. She started off by saying that there was assigned spots. Really now? Your husband told me last night that this was not the case. "Oh, well we've been living here a long time so..." Right. The conversation ended with her saying she was going to park behind my car and block me in and they were going to call the property management on me. I told her to have them call me.

Anyway, this is probably nothing to most of you but as someone who has been pushed around and walked on the majority of his life this was extremely empowering.

I'm glad I've found this oasis.
