This is just the extension of women are the gatekeeper of sex and men the gatekeeper of commitment. But enough people have been disagreeing on it on different threads, so I decided to make a new one.

We know a sex act is going to be about... sex... But to me a romantic act is going to be about reaffirming or giving commitment.

Both romantic and sex acts are potentially requiring your body, time, pride, energy, and money. These are the 5 main resources everybody have.

The main counter argument I get is that sex acts can be painful and degrading. But these are damages on your body and pride.

While romance is rarely physically painful, it can hurt the other resources I listed. I disagree with this argument because it seems to be cherry picking what sort of pain is morally acceptable and what is not, when all are potential direct damage. Just like how men tend to think sex is no big deal to women, women tend to think men throwing money is no big deal either.

This argument also seems to be based on the idea that romantic acts cannot be degrading. Which I think is just misunderstanding of male psyche and of couple dynamics.

According to you, why would these not be equivalent in the context of couple dynamics?
