TLDR: When in a jury for cases of sexual assault, women are more likely to disbelieve the woman making the rape claim and even convince many male jurors to acquit the defendant.

A 2004 study in the American Journal of Criminal Justice found women to be more likely to acquit men accused of rape. The article claims that when on trial the idea is to try and afford the woman victim status. If the woman can be seen as a victim (either by playing up the bigness and badness of the accused, or that the plaintiff was in a respectable place for respectable reasons) she can get a guilty verdict.

However if she's not seen as a textbook example of a rape victim then it is mainly the women in a jury that vote to acquit. The article even says:

Female jurors also typically establish themselves as the primary vocalists during deliberations, and sway male jurors who initially intend to vote guilty to vote not guilty.

I originally went looking for stats on women in juries because I wanted evidence they voted more with their emotions than with logic. Instead I found this, which honestly surprised me. The only reasons I can think of for this is that women are not as influenced by the Women are Wonderful effect as men are. Being women themselves they know when they see a lying or deceitful woman. Perhaps they can even see themselves making a false rape claim and so know what to look for in a woman who actually went through with making one. That second one is a bit of a stretch. Yes AWALT, but I don't think we can add fantasies about a false rape trial to the list of things that every woman does. Maybe a lot of them would know how a trial would go down if they were to accuse someone, but they don't actively fantasize about it.

There's also the possibility that they don't see the woman as a victim because they're looking for typical signs of rape. Is the accused a big scary black man? Or is the accused a nice college white boy that was friends with the victim? One is much more likely to be found guilty, despite the fact that most rapes are committed by someone the victim knew before the rape.

Lessons learned: Lawyer up, don't talk to the cops. Women aren't wonderful, they're fucking monkeys with shoes like the rest of us, and apparently women can see that better than the majority of men can.
