I'll be honest, I've quit before. I felt amazing when I did. Lasted about 6 weeks. It was hard socializing with friends, the funny thing was I would gravitate to more sober people at events and have really meaningful conversations that didn't revolve around drugs or alcohol.

Just tonight I was considering giving it up, I had two pints on my own and felt real low afterwards.

The more unhappy you are the more you will gravitate to crutches like booze and unhappy people I believe.

When you think about it logically it's a real luxury that is only rapidly deteriorating your body and burning a hole in your pocket.

I'm 40. I've puffed a cigarette once when I was about 12, I think I've had maybe ten SIPS of alcohol in my life, and I've never done any drugs. When I tell people that they think I'm insane. I get either one of two responses: "How can you have fun??" "What do you do when you go out??" or "Ohh you think you're so much better than everyone else? You got a problem with people that enjoy a drink??" It's like their plans revolve around when and where they can drink. My friends drink socially, and a couple are recreational users. I have no problems with it at all, some of them I've been friends with for 20+ years. And somehow, I guess through some miracle, we still manage to have fun even though I don't drink.

Being married almost made me turn into an alcoholic. Before I got married I was in killer shape. Untramarathon shape. I stared drinking soon after I got married and as the marriage continued to suck the life out of me I drank more and more. Probably spent 10s of thousands on it. Last bottle was the night I moved out of the house I had bought with the ex 6 months prior to her getting fired and 11 months prior to her filing for divorce. Other than an occasional beer w/ friends (maybe once per month) I never touch the stuff. It got so bad the last few years of the marriage I couldn't get to sleep without it. That first night away from Karen I found I had no need or desire for it. It was like flipping a switch.

I love drugs and alcohol specially cocaine.

I dont like myself currently, just wanna get into shape keep saving money and over all not go out to bars to celebrate absolutely nothing.

I love interesting fulfilling conversations, I dont want to live this mindless cycle of me just medicating myself.

So I decided to stop alcohol and all drugs for a full year, this is my third month, I had to change barbershops, and my favorite restaurant because all of my peers cant fathom, am deleting numbers off my phone right now

5 weeks sober former alcoholic here :) also 4 months break from weed which I smoked daily from waking up until going to bed for 7 years! all because of mgtow! also lost 45lbs of weight :D

You can't reason with a hive mind and while they're still in the blue pill, they'll never understand that every person who's an individual capable of thinking for himself is making decisions based on logic and reason. And that baffles them to the point they will rationalize anything with emotions.

There's nothing wrong with stopping drinking alcohol as long as it's your decision. I haven't touched alcohol in months and I feel great, with more energy and no fucks is given.

You do you, brother. Do what makes you happy and don't let anybody drag to you to their levels. They are like crabs, for every step you make forward with success, they'll drag you back to the bucket. Just focus on yourself and GYOW.

When I was 15 (you can drink beer and wine here with 16, everything else with 18) I decided to never even start drinking any kind of alcohol. Stupid waste of money. My parents, to this day, still annoy me with shit like "When are you going to try a beer?" or "What will you do if you are at a party and have never drank before?". Well I won't start drinking then dumbass. They condemn weed but alcohol is completely fine I guess.

I still drink alcohol, but I see where you're coming from. It's generally at special occasions or maybe once a month, as I enjoy the taste. I've never been drunk and will never understand the obsession around getting drunk. Going to a specific establishment to get drunk, paying them a stupid amount of money to get drunk, and then drinking so much you either forget what you did, vomit all that wasted money back up, or wake up feeling like shit.

Most people are absolute children that can't control their intake, and almost any gathering I go to someone ruins or almost ruins everyone's fun by drinking too much. I can't stand babysitting adults.

The only thing I can recommend with quoting alcohol, is cutting the people out of your life who depend on it.

It’s so hard to go sober if all you’re buddies are on the verge of alcoholism. Need to keep that shit away, simply for the temptation and group peer pressure.

I am a teetotaller too. It's crazy how much more productive I am in this state, but it's always difficult to resist the peer pressure. Sometimes I question if I should continue since it is more challenging to develop and maintain friendships without the aid of alcohol. Then I reflect on the financial progress and deeper relationships in my life with sobriety and I remain resolute in my choice. Fuck'em!

I’m currently on a year streak of being sober (May 2020 is my end date...I might extend). I miss it. Perhaps it’s because I wasn’t an alcoholic however am being treated like one.

I don’t really have a choice in the matter but it is what it is. So for the next year, I’m working out like a fiend (being diagnosed with low T and the inclusion of TRT is helping).

I don’t think ill of folks who drink nor do I think I’ll of folks who don’t drink (I used to).

I definitely see how to can effect ones social life though...

I've quit alcohol also though I don't recommend it to others. It's important to understand that drinking has become a hobby to many. They become different people, they put on a show. They like who they are when they are buzzed or drunk with buzzed or drunk company. You should explore the "burden of consciousness" theory.

Alcohol is the go to drug for good times and bad times. Weekend - vodka shots. Weekday shift is over? Miller time. Someone in the family died - make sure you pour one out for them. Someone's birthday? They better get shitfaced. A generation brainwashed to respond to every occasion by doing their best to forget it. And they say they "Nah man, that advertising doesn't work on me brah!" How would they even know - heavy alcohol consumption has notable brain damaging effects.

Besides that, drinking in pubs especially is really expensive. Don't even start with clubs and sporting events. I can spend my money for more wisely. It's not great for your diet either and your liver will thank you many decades down when everyone else's is cirrhosed. Alcoholics are the biggest losers followed closely by potheads.
In the absence of alcohol, you'll really notice how boring and pathetic most people really are.

I'll be honest in saying that I can't really understand it either. I understand choosing not to drink if you're an alcoholic, or if you have health issues, or if you are a problem drinker, or if you use it as a social lubricant and you don't want to be social, or if you cannot afford to drink. But personally, as the sort of person who has a couple of beers 2-3 times a week, and drinks selectively for taste, I see no obvious case against drinking. My consumption is moderate and enjoyable, and I suffer no obvious adverse consequences from it. And truth be told, I don't think I'm wildly atypical of the average person, who does consume some alcohol, but does not let alcohol control their lives. Am I part of "the plugged in" because I choose to drink? Because that strikes me as an unreasonable conclusion.

The trick is to never really quit(unless you have an issue). I’ll drink 1-2 beers when I go out with friends and that happens once every 3 months. As for socializing you can still have a beer but not really drink, I usually have a few sips and plenty of water. Makes it easier to not have to explain yourself every time. That way you don’t have this mental road block but instead practice self control.

I drink when I go out. I love going out and being social. Then I end up getting laid too. If I was sober, I'd just stay home. Would I save money? Sure. But for what? I make enough money. Most people I know who had 'alcohol problems' also abused other substances. Not me, jack.

Alcohol dumbs me down enough to partake in the simple and uninteresting conversations of those around me. Being sober is maddening some days, most of humanity is just really dumb.

I think there’s a difference between people who drink to get drunk and people who enjoy the flavor of a nice whiskey. I like to treat myself to a ml of whiskey every now and then because I enjoy the flavor

When I go out, I’ll get unsweetened iced tea because everyone automatically assumes you’re pounding long islands. I have terrible tolerance and don’t like bottom shelf liquor
