Don't know how it works in the USA, but in my country when there's a criminal lawsuit for slander, normally the judge tries to avoid trial by having the accuser agree to give up the lawsuit if the defendant apologizes publicly.

That's my guess of what happened here. I'm sure she wouldn't come clean out of the kindness of her heart. What would be the benefit for her?

That's the only way to get something back, if you pesecute the woman they are broke (and also protected by the law) but if you report the college/workplace that kicked you out they will pay you back.

She still isn't really taking accountability. It's all about one word she chose to use "mentioned".

Although it's true that "mentioning" something and "saying" something can be though of as the exact same thing. You open your mouth and say something. But mentioning has a slightly different context.

If she said "I SAID that out of rage" it's taking accountability that she SAID it but that it isn't true.

To "mention" something means "verb: mention;; past participle: mentioned;

refer to something briefly and without going into detail."

"I mentioned that out of rage" is a quick little attempt to diminish (to a small degree) the damage and accountability by making it still seem (just a bit) like there might be just a touch of truth, that she just slightly and casually just happened to toss in there.

To be more accurate she should have said "I FABRICATED that out of rage" but that takes FAR more accountability to say she completely made it up.

And since women claim that they are way better at communication and language than men (especially when faced with 'men are better at math') I will hold her to the higher standard. Her little hamster brain still wanted to diminish what she did. The part of her brain that refuses to accept accountability for anything jumped in and chose a word that took a little away from the fact that she just fucking lied.

It's the little things. These subtle little changes can change the meaning of the whole in a way that serves her.
