To be honest I’m really dreading the collapse of this student loan bubble. All the empowered females are gonna be voting for the politicians offering free gimme’s and debt forgiveness, then we’re totally fucked. Fuck man. Usually I’m pretty stoic but this is going to affect everyone.

Just debated this last night with someone who wants to relieve the debt.

Relieving student loan debt won’t fix anything. It’s not going to create jobs. Yes, it may allow more people to buy homes, but not everyone can handle home ownership. People also need skin in the game. I paid my loans off in my late 30s and I’ve got no patience to pay someone else’s as a tax payer.

A central problem that needs to be addressed is not channeling people into appropriate levels of education. Not everyone needs nor should go get a college degree. Going into a trade should be celebrated, and encouraged. However overall, there should be focus on training/educating people to meet market needs and forecasts.

I’m more inclined to be flexible with someone’s debt that was trying to fulfill a forecasted need, even if missed, than a highly restrictive degree (“Gender Studies” or “Art History”) with extremely limited demand. I’m not saying these fields shouldn’t exist, but “choose your own adventure (of being poor and poverty)”, be aware that you’re not going to make much, but expect no help. I almost want to consider such things Auxiliary degrees, as it shouldn’t be done on its own... coupled with a hard science to round people out, after all physics and art can compliment each other nicely.

Ever heard of the personal debt crisis ? So there is the public debt everyone knows about and there is the addition of every single debt every average Joe owe to a bank. This debt is absolutly out of control and the student debt is a part of this bigger problem. Funny thing is that it just boils down to living over what's possible for you. There is not enough poor and way too much middle-upper class. Female are prime leaders of this movement as they cannot live without ALL the commodities the modern technologies have offered us.

I don't know if the next recession will be caused by it, but the recession could completely fuck over those people with huge debt that cannot be escaped.

I spent a fair chunk of the weekend researching what's going to happen over the next 2-5 years and one of the scenarios that might happen due to deleveraging, is deflation - where there is less money chasing goods & services. That sounds "whatever" superficially but the ability to magically inflate away the relative cost of a loan is what has driven the world economy for the last 50+ years - your income increases over time, and the fixed payments on your loans become a smaller and smaller percentage of your income.

When that starts to go the other way - your income starts going down because of less money chasing the same goods & services, and suddenly your loan expenses start to become a larger and larger chunk of your dwindling income. Your 100K student loans for lesbian interpretive dance theory that might have been manageable when you were making 100k as an Instagram thot, become impossible when your income drops to $75k, $50k, $25k or less.

Of course that's only one scenario - another scenario is that a Democrat gets into power in the US, gets the congress to adopt an MMT based policy and drives the US economy into hyper inflation. That worked out well for Venezuela.

As a rule, I do not incur debts I cannot repay. This is the main reason I never went to college or trade school. Debt is a pit it can be very difficult to crawl out of.

Well in this subreddit everyone is going to agree with that statement whether it’s correct or not. If you posted it in a subreddit for feminists who don’t shave their mustaches/have a higher than normal PH level, then they would obviously disagree.

With that being said I agree that women will always think they are entitled especially during times of hardships, but let’s not act like every man is a hard logical worker that makes calculated decisions because of his gender.

They have to go after the colleges. They did this. Charge astronomical amount, give priority to women and minorities OVER performance and intelligence. Providing asylum for moron professors who never worked and stayed in the safety of academia.

Already happened. This website did a study saying how student loan is a woman’s issue because they make up 56% of college graduates.

Basically, they said, outloud, to the world, that less men are going to college and that it’s a problem for women.
