I've been coming back to this subreddit for a while now, and this question has been burning in my mind. Here's my story:

I finished my undergrad a little before turning 22 and started to take my self-improvement game several notches up. I developed an allergy for anything I deemed "useless", so my time (outside of grad school commitments) was spent on self-education and fitness. Working with such singular intent produced results that were visible in my daily interactions with others, and my increasing confidence in myself eventually led me to ditch the blind alpha-male worship that I had up until that point indulged in. I went from being a wholesome, bubbly, "nice girl" to a demure queen bee type that could be that nice girl if she happens to like you. Worked like a charm. Let me clarify that I did not become a bitch. I remained affable and (seemingly) undemanding when speaking with prospective mates, but I made it a point to retain power by giving and with-holding interest as I saw fit (which, for me, was a role-reversal of sorts). This wasn't an empty bluff: my logic was that since I work much harder at things that the men I am interested in value in themselves, like intellect, I am in a viable position to judge them. While I know its oft been proclaimed that men don't care about this stuff, I should also note that I've always been traditionally girly: make-up, cooking, baking, decorating, fresh-cut flowers. I conciously worked on being the complete package.

In other words, I found a means to control not through verbalization, but by cultivating such a flawless and radiant presence that I inspired my suitors to strive to be good enough, whereas before I was striving to be good enough for them. Before this sudden shift in personality, I was in one serious relationship in which I embodied the ideal RP woman (doting and practically delighting being subjugated) but this dissolved due to long-distance. The thing is, the captain-first mate paradigm that was characteristic of this relationship, provided such a potent sexual kick that I find hard to get back, since it just doesn't align with self-truth anymore. So to the self-actualized feminine women out there: what did you do to level yourself out?
