Today i was enjoying my first day off in a long while with the very first summer day this year and i found a nice street to walk through when i was lucky enough to notice a really nice resting spot with some fancy chairs and whatever. It was really comfy for about 3 seconds before a strange man came directly towards me from nowhere, kissed my hand, told me i was beautiful and asked questions about my work and studies before going in for a hug.
First of all i immediately reacted with a face of disgust as i dried my hand on his shirt the second he let go of my hand. I felt bad about it but apparently he didn't care anyways. When going in for the hug, i pushed him away and got up before leaving. I felt like i was being unfair and rude the whole time.
It wasn't until several minutes of re-thinking about the events that i realized how rude it is to treat someone like he treated me. Not to mention the corona situation right now either. To expect a woman to suck it up and just give in to whatever physical contact or forced interactions just because it means they find you attravtive is the very proof that women are considered second class. He whined and begged me when i rejected his attempts on probably using my body as some sort of sick comfort for his own gain. Imagine feeling good about forcing strangers to hug you after spitting on their hand.
The fact that it's impossible for me to realize what's happening in the moment is scary and probably very common for women because of how we're raised; to consider the feelings of others before our own. The only reason i weren't forcefully hugged today and maybe worse, was because i've been working on considering my own immediate feelings more, something that's taken me maybe 10 years to work up to the point where i will push people away and tell them to leave me alone, but apparently not enough to tell them what they deserve to hear. And as always, it can be deadly for a woman to be rude.
I hope all of my sisters in here will find the courage to believe and respect their own feelings, especially during confrontation and situations where people beg to tear down youe valuable boundaries. Boundaries aren't a joke and it shouldn't be treated as such. If we can at least not pretend that eveything is alright, as long as it doesn't threathen our life, we will make ourselves and probably the society around us stronger. Being rude is a very efficient way of filtering out LVMs such as predators. Remember this ESPECIALLY in the face of PUAs since they almost never approach in a life threathening conext and can be of great value to practising being honest, assertive and rude towards inappropriate and insulting approaches.
Stay strong, stay selfish and never let yourself down. Follow your gut first and then, worst case, apologize later if needed but trust me when i say it won't be necessary.
