Edit: I would like to apologize, I made it seem like it's all Ukraine is. It's definitely not. It is also a much more open-minded and free place than Russia and I genuinely enjoyed spending time there. Ukrainians are welcoming and caring people and I genuinely love that country. I'll leave this comment be like I wrote it though

Ukraine is poor, orthodox and patriarchal. During the Soviet era women were "liberated" due to the economy being in shambles so they'll have more working hands. Still, they were (and still are) expected to work hard AND take care of their homes and kids. There is even a slavic saying which roughly translates as "She will stop a running horse, she will go into a burning house", basically means "she's strong and doesn't need anyone", yet is still expected to take care of her husband.

There is an entire culture where a woman has to hide her pain/struggles/strength and still be submissive and weak to her husband so he doesn't feel emasculated. That's what this guy wants. Wife-but-actually-mommy
