I (28F) currently have two guys in my rotation, per the FDS rule of dating multiple men until you’re exclusive. Guy #1 is the same as me and guy #2 is a lot younger. He’s 22. We’re only texting and doing video chat dates because of quarantine.

I saw a post on FDS a few weeks ago about how it’s a potential red flag if you don’t look like a guy’s exes or fit his preferences. But does that still apply if you’re conventionally beautiful? Is it common for men to “upgrade” to more better-looking women once they achieve a certain level of career and personal success? A celebrity example would be when Jeff Bezos started dating Lauren Sanchez, who is more conventionally attractive than his ex-wife Mackenzie.

Last night, I decided to do some digging on Guy #1’s Facebook to see if I could learn a bit about his past. He hasn’t shown any red flags yet. I was just genuinely curious. I’ll probably do the same with Guy #2 at some point. But I saw he still has some photos with two of his exes on there, although they’re not tagged in them so I’m guessing he blocked them but forgot to delete the photos. They were from a few years ago and I’ve also accidentally kept certain photos with my exes on FB, so it’s whatever. What I did notice though is that neither girl looked like me.

I would consider myself to be conventionally attractive. I’m tall, skinny, fit, decent-sized boobs and ass and I have long blonde hair. And I look very young because I take great care of myself. But his exes were both petite, nerdy, girl-next door types with brown hair. They weren’t ugly by any means, but they weren’t conventionally beautiful. Kind of like Mackenzie Bezos. Guy #1 is kind of nerdy himself so it makes sense, but it also made me wonder if I’m his “upgrade” like Lauren now that he has a really nice apartment downtown and is becoming very successful in his career.

Guy #2 joked with me on our first date that he usually doesn’t like blondes, but I must be pretty special because I “converted” him somehow. I found that a bit alarming at the time, but then on one of our later dates he told me he loved how my hair looked after I put a toner gloss in it to make it more platinum. Because of his age though, I’m guessing he doesn’t have much dating experience and also he’s Mexican and I’m white, so I also think he might just be used to dating girls within his own race who have dark hair like him.

TD;LR: How much does it really matter if you’re his “type” physically? Do men often “upgrade” to more conventionally beautiful women once they achieve career success?
