When my old roommate would tell me that he did the dishes or took out the trash (once every three weeks) is always respond with ‘okay?... want a cookie?’ In the most sarcastic condescending tone I could. If he acts like a dog imma treat him like a dog.

I remember explaining to a friend of mine that I cooked every night and my boyfriend did the dishes, and that the division of labour worked really well for us because we each really enjoyed our tasks.

She said there’s no way he enjoys it, you must be on him all the time to clean up. When I told her I never had to ask him, in fact he does most of the cleaning around the house, she was beside herself in shock. “He’s a real keeper!” she said, when in reality he ended up not being a keeper. Doing the bare minimum isn’t husband material.

My dad was a stay at home dad for a number of years in my childhood, and then he worked from home most of the time, so it was normal for me to see a man doing housework. He was the one picking me up from school, cooking dinner for mom, and packing my lunches for the next day.

I’m so happy I had a good male role model growing up, because as I’ve come to realize my dad is the exception, not the rule. However it’s also made me realize that domestic chores aren’t done with our genitals, so in theory, anyone can do them 😮.

Seriously. Don't fall into this line of thinking. Men are just as capable as women when it comes to housework OR cooking. They know full well that they are; they are just pretending not to because it benefits them.

Let me give you an example. Consider: how much free time do you have on a regular weekend? And by free time I mean time to spend entirely on yourself and your hobbies.

Well guess what. I'm in a few mountain biking /hiking groups and they are full of men going on several hour long hikes or biking trips during the weekend. Men. Not families. Not men and their wives and girlfriends. Men alone or men in groups.

So yeah I could give them the benefit of doubt and say that maybe their partners don't share the same hobby. But I don't think so. I think their wives and girlfriends are at home, cleaning, cooking and taking care of the kids so he can air out on a bike.

Fuck it. Give him the mop, the spoon and the kid and go ride your bike for hours. Or make him help so you can go together later. Why should you slave away while he's enjoying himself?

It's supposed to be a place to promote female interests but just makes us look stupid then bans it's own mods for saying men shouldn't compete in women's sports. I'm pretty sure it has majority male mods now.

It's so pathetic and frankly a huge turn-off when a guy expects a gold star or a fucking blowjob for performing basic human functions like COOKING and CLEANING. Really it's bottom of the barrel shit. I put up with four years of it from my ex and it did my head in. Even worse was when he procrastinated to the point where I just got frustrated and would do the chore myself. It's a huge sign of disrespect. I knew he didn't treat his male flatmates like that before he moved in to my house. Asshole.

Reminds me of my boss who made a lot of time to fix his car but left most of the child-rearing and domestic labor to his wife who ALSO works a full-time job. Then on the mornings, he'd come in boasting about how he made his wife and kids breakfast he'd be upset that I'd remind him that his wife does that 360 days a year while you step up MAYBE 5 days a year. Or how he decided to take the kids shopping with him while his wife slept for the first time in 3 months and thought it was cute how she called him asking if he'd seen his own kids.

Like, he's not a bad boss or a bad guy, but god DAMN. He is definitely not a great partner. It also rubbed me the wrong way how the girls would always praise him because "At least he's putting effort in" but??? What kind of standard is that?

Especially on here, I had to call out a few posts, like yay he combed his daughter’s hair, bow down to him, like mothers do all that and more and don’t even get praised. The biggest double standard for me is single women being bashed for being single women, and single dads being praised

The most annoying thing I can think of when it comes to this is single fathers. Single fathers get a lot of praise whereas single mothers just get criticised and blamed. I don't have any children myself but it is another example.
