Did you grow up hearing this about your fathers or stepfathers? How much did it influence how you looked at relationships early in life? I understand where my mother was coming from, as she grew up in an abusive home & experienced physically abusive relationships. But it truly makes me sad and angry to be reminded of how low the bar is set for men (my father was definitely emotionally abusive.) I'm all for practicing gratitude for the blessings in your life and looking on the bright side, but not when it causes you to forgive unacceptable behavior just because it's not as bad as something else. I know this yet I still fall back into this way of thinking often. If you used to think this way, how did you move past it to a healthier mindset about relationships?
