I don't know if this makes sense, but I feel sometimes like I don't really fit in with what I'm looking for here so while I think a lot of FDS applies to me and has been super useful I'm not really sure what to do about this.

I see ladies talking about going on fancy dinner dates and receiving very thoughtful, often extravagant gifts. Those things sound lovely, and I certainly wouldn't mind them, but they don't really... "speak" to me if that makes sense? I don't want to sound all "not like other girls" because that isn't my intention, I'm just feeling a little odd-woman-out. I think about the dates I would love to go on and then I see other women mentioning those types of dates on here in a negative way and now I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong?

Like, I would love nothing more than a guy I'm dating to pick me up one winter morning and we drive up north and spend the day ice fishing in a shack and go snowmobiling. I really love fishing! But it's not expensive and doesn't take really any effort so I can see how it would be lazy. Is it my fault for not dreaming bigger? I guess normal dates make me uncomfortable sometimes. I used to have an eating disorder so it makes me a little nervous to have dinner with someone I don't know, but I can usually do a dinner date after we've met a few times so I always liked walking/coffee dates for the first couple of dates so I can get comfortable enough to eat around them, especially if I met them online. But I know those dates are against FDS and I know it's hard to get a guy to show more effort if he slacks off in the beginning. All I want is a guy who knows me well and will do small, day to day gestures that show he loves, understands, and appreciates me.

I'm just not sure what I should do. Should I insist on "higher value" dates than I don't like or am uncomfortable with? That doesn't seem right to me but I'm not sure what else I can do. Even though I've had a few coffee and walks dates I was still making sure that they planned and initiated, that it was convenient for me, and I was enjoying myself, showing affection when they did something I liked and staying aloof when not. I did also go on bowling and axe throwing dates and I enjoyed those very much, as well as one man brought me my favorite beer (I couldn't find it locally) and we played card games in the park. It was so small but after dating guys who only treated me as an NPC it felt so nice to know he'd listened to something I said.

Is it enough to just apply the "spirit" of FDS? Are my standards just too low? If so how do I raise them while staying true to what I like?
