My father had a PhD, always had a job, no matter what, treated my mother like a Queen. Bought her beautiful flowers every week (from a florist, ones he knew she liked), beautiful jewellery and shopping sprees to her heart's desire (sometimes beyond credit limits but he handled that!). He worshipped her and fulfilled whatever she wanted, I.e. Holidays, homewares, anything. Our income was middle class but it felt upper class because the man/breadwinner funnelled all of it to us...not hookers, gambling, drinking or the other LVM weaknesses. From the age of 10, he gave me Valentine's chocolates and always bolstered my self-esteem. I hit puberty early and I was very nerdy so he had his work cut out, but he made me feel like a goddess. I kept my virginity until my ex husband (rich handsome guy so seemingly HVM). I'm grateful I didn't just give it up to all the gross losers that I encountered...there were so many skeezebags who tried to force it on me and I just said nooo. So, he helped me see my worth...so important. When I had female friends over, he'd be lighting cigarettes and getting drinks. He listened and was kind. He scared off any crappy boys, for me or my girls. We needed it. Our filters sucked...we were 90s girls lol. Anyway...now I'm 40 and sadly Dad passed 8 years ago but I'm trying to re-apply his expectations. Yes, men should treat women differently. No going Dutch or being a sport about stupid shit. Remember this. Men should treat women like Queens.
