UGH there's an elderly pickme matriarch-type in my family who would have me destroy myself with bad choices simply because she can't fathom me not wanting her life - ie, lots of babies, endless domestic labour (coupled with zero support or reciprocation) no career or personal endeavours, simultaneously worship and manage the husband but also bitch about him to the gals. Her entire life has been devoted to serving her husband and sons. She hates that I've lived for myself and she cannot spare a single brain cell on the possibility that my life is perfect for me.

Anyway. If you say you don't like something - the idea of having kids for example - she always argues, "hOw do YoU kNoW iF yoU hAveN't tRiEd??" Uh, becuase I have a goddamn mind of my own, Brenda? Because I have imagination, intuition, and wisdom? Humans generally are equipped with the ability to make these sorts of predictions and assessments as a function of survival?? Christ, the profound narcissism it takes to resent and abuse someone for being the best version of themselves.

I just had this conversation with my father. He told me I should have used the pandemic to improve myself (I’m sure he meant lose weight). I told him, I’m 40 years old and I’m enough just as I am.

Not saying people shouldn’t improve/grow, but like give us a break we’re exhausted.

My therapist used to encourage me to go toward guys even if we both knew what they had to offer me wasn't what I was looking for. I had to get angry so that she would stop doing that. I know a lot of therapists do that it is truly annoying. Anyway, I totally agree with that statement and I personally sure learnt how to apply that boundary.

It baffles me how people use the 'tRy It yOu MiGhT lIke It' mentality when it comes to sick sexual acts or drugs but never apply it to anything useful. Like it's obvious why anyone wouldn't ever want to do bdsm or ecstacy.
