I was wondering if anyone else does this. Since embracing fds, when a new friend I’m just getting to know blows me off/doesn’t respond to messages for days, I cut my losses and stop reaching out. I want to have friends where both of us are clearly interested in meeting with /supporting the other person, not feel like I’m begging for us to hang out.

I’m just bummed because I have moved to a new city recently and it’s harder than ever to make friends. I’m extroverted, have several hobbies, and I think I’m a fun and empathetic person. But it’s tough getting a new friendship off the ground especially after seeing several where the other person put in 0 effort. I’ll also note I’m only trying to befriend other women.

It stings extra for me because I just lost a friend— one former friend A hurt me numerous times in many ways, and then a different friend B, knowing all of the history, decided to move in with her. When I told B how hurt I felt, she said what happened doesn’t involve her so she should live with whoever she wants.

I’m bummed because I blocked friend A so she couldn’t contact me or see what I am doing, and by B moving in with A (and A being very nosy) I know it would give A an in to what I’m doing just by asking B about it. I know this possibility would always stress me out, so I fear I will have to end my friendship with B too.

How do y’all handle the fact that high standards for friends makes for a lot of loneliness while trying to find your people? How do you handle finding out a long-standing friendship actually wasn’t what you thought and your friend doesn’t have your back when you need her?
