I’m terrible at accepting shitty gifts when I should just decline them entirely. Feels so uncomfortable when a guy hands you something that’s clearly not your style or up to your standards in quality and you have to be real with them; “oh…well, at least he tried.”

LOL NO. I’m not hauling another box of trash “gifts” to the garbage bins. Ancient man-cave speakers, pseudo-pornographic comics, #winemom tumblers…this guy I’m still vetting knows I love fancy stationery so he dusted off the ol’ lathe and etched a custom-made wax stamp out of brass using a design I created myself…Too much? Nope. Just right. Proves he’s paying attention. Proves he has skills and hobbies of his own. Proves he’s proactive and cares about my happiness. Just fucking right.

I dated this year a dental surgeon who gave me a big box of travel-size toothpaste they give you when you go to the dentist.

It wasn’t even a fresh box, it was a beat up box and it looked like he had been collecting them in there so it was pack full probably 2-3 times extra the amount of crest toothpaste than what originally came inside. Made me feel like he’d gave me some random collection he had no use for.

At first I thought it was an electronic toothbrush but then I had such a puzzled look on my face and picked it up and was really confused as to why he was even giving me it lol. I said thank you but I didn’t pretend I liked it.

He was like “you’re acting like you’re doing me a favor by accepting this”. And then I had to say “oh no it’s really sweet thank you” but I just could not fake it lol.

The condom fell off during the first time we had sex (first time it ever happened to me) and we had to go to the ER to get it out as I could not pull it out for the life of me lol.

And on the drive home he says “now we can have sex without a condom” and I said you can’t be serious and when he said he was I was Like why??? He said since we’d technically already had unprotected sex already and he gets texted regularly being a dentist and had gotten tested a few days before. It was the 7tj and last date, the sex was great but not sticking around a loser so I broke it off.

I was absolutely shocked that he said that and that he was a freaking dentist too!!

This is me. I am so rude and try my best to be as much of a gray rock as possible. Unamused, not entertained, blatantly bored. I am not nice when someone crosses a boundary or acts inappropriately. And let me tell you, it saves me SO much trouble. Do not be nice or courteous to shitty men. They would pump and dump you the first chance they got.

I know it feels good to post stuff like this, but it's still centering on his actions and a woman's reactions. If he doesn't measure up to the standards, don't just ignore and act bored, leave the date. Break up with the guy, block and delete. Let's not complicate something that's very simple.

The last guy I dated stressed so much over getting me a gift that he broke it off. I literally told him the plant I wanted, it was very affordable. He ended up calling me 2 days before my birthday, asking me to convince him to keep seeing each other. We lived 45 minutes apart and he said he'd been hiding the fact that he was basically a manchild. The last date we had, he picked me up in his filthy car. He couldn't even take 5 minutes to throw away the seltzer cans. Literally boiled down to "if he wanted to, he would". He did not want to.

always drive yourself/meet him

always lookup the restaurant BEFORE actually showing up, vet the places he's asks you out to, a lot of LVM will ask you to a dumpy place and hype it up hoping they can trick you. one lvm tried doing this with me saying he wanted to take me out to his favorite restaurant, went on and on how "fancy" it was with "gourmet food" and thankfully I looked it up first because it was a dirty dumpy bar in the middle of the ghetto neighborhood. blocked and deleted him and I didn't show up!

I got a shit gift for my birthday from my ex. The thought was kind of there, but overall, it was like a 2/10.

I asked some of my friends what I should do. Most of them said "Well, he got you something! Just pretend you like it! Be grateful!"

What did I do instead?

I (politely) told him I didn't like the ($30, lazy) gift he got me and instead told him to buy me a $400 gift I had been eying.

Why should I accept a subpar gift from a boyfriend when I went all out for his birthday a few months earlier?

I wish I had done this sooo many times in life. I just smiled and went along with shitty gifts or no gifts after buying men nice gifts and sweet things. I did things for them because I cared. How or what a man does and the quality of gifts he gives shows how much he cares.

I don’t hold back at all now! Fuck their feelings. We have to be ruthless to find a man who truly values us and will treat us well.
