At least they are getting downvoted, but holy fuck, it's stupid how many people are claiming this as yet another example of misogyny. Seriously. We're talking about a trope where the husband is consistently portrayed as incompetent, stupid, lazy, and all-around awful, while the wife is portrayed as a super hero who is carrying both of them on her back. And somehow, people are still convinced that this is misogyny, not misandry?

Good lord, there's no better evidence that our society is biased against men when even something so blatantly anti-man as this is seen as anti-woman.

There was a great show not too long ago. It had three sets of parents.

A single dad, a stay at home dad, and a working dad.

The single dad loved his kid and his divorced wife was ambivalent.

The stay at home dad was entrepreneurial at heart and struggled with not working, bit would rather spend time with his kids.

The relationship between all these families was amazing to watch.

I don't remember the name, but I do remember that it was great watching how all the dads were represented.

The stay at home dad had three kids and was amazingly competent.

The working dad was...less competent with kids (as was his working wife)

The single dad was the typical overprotective stereotype normally associated with moms.

If I owned a razor company right now and wanted to take out my entire competition, I would put out an sentimental ad with a dad teaching his son to shave. It would be game over. But the world is just too woke to handle it.

The advertising industry is a cartel with all participants essentially rolling up to a handful of individuals setting policy and procedure for 98% of the industry. Even the large Fortune 500 companies buying ad space have essentially most of their ownership held by a small number of giant investment firms who approve board members who approve senior corporate leadership who approve advertising vendors, etc etc.

Dan Conner and Alan Matthews (boy meets world) were the last set of TV dads I recall being men. Dan didn't simp too hard for Roseanne and they may have fought, but they had each others' back as parents and raising kids.

The only show with this trope that doesn't bother me is Modern Family. Phil is "a bumbling moron" but thats just his soft personality. He's actually smart, canny, witty, caring, and adores his wife and kids.

The gays on that show...are a different story.

The only difference I see between the traditional role and the new one for men with respect to disposability is that maleness and manhood, they used to be celebrated, they used to be admired and they used to be rewarded because it was really necessary and because the personal cost of it to individual men was so incredibly high.
But now we still expect men to put women first and we still expect society to put women first and we still expect men to not complain about coming in dead last every time. But men don’t even get women’s admiration anymore, all they get in return is to hear about what assholes they are,is it any wonder they’re starting to get pissed off?

The most accurate portrayal would be a father who is smart, capable, caring and hardworking but is falsely accused of being dumb and lazy in every scene.
