Anime recommendations

One I watched and enjoyed recently was titled My Wife is a High School Girl. The main character is very adorable and loving towards her husband. It's a very cute and funny slice-of-life, if you enjoy that kind of anime. Of course, her husband is a bit dorky and oblivious at times, but their dynamic is very sweet.

One of the first movies that comes to mind isn't an anime - but it does have a lot of interesting masculine/feminine dynamics is The Fifth Element. Leeloo is an incredibly powerful being, but she shows a lot of vulnerability, innocence, and femininity. Throughout the movie, Koben Dallas (Bruce Willis) not only saves, but also looks after Leeloo.

Another movie that comes to mind is more recent - and there are a ton of RP ideas all throughout the movie. How To Train Your Dragon 2 has the classically masculine father that loves his wife, protects his family, and believes it is his responsibility to lead the village. There's a woman that falls for the disinterested 'strong guy' and openly ridicules two 'beta-orbiters' that pester her non-stop. It's a beautiful movie, and definitely worth checking out.

There are some 'girly' romance anime shows that play a lot with themes of masculinity, femininity, and love. It's a bit cheesy, but the first anime series I watched regularly was "Inuyasha" - but I think you can find feminine characters in a lot of different shows (for exampleBleach,Naruto, and Attack On Titan). There are also anime movies that deal with many of these topics (Howl's Moving Castle immediately comes to mind).

I'm definitely interested to see what other people say though, because I'm always on the lookout for new animes to watch (right now I'm working through Van Helsing with my SO).

Clannad and Clannad After Story are not strictly RP, but one of the major themes is how a loving and feminine-spirited woman inspires a man to become his best, and it has a lot of really interesting characters and relationships. It's also a very beautiful depiction of modern Japanese life and might break your heart.

Sword Art Online is also great - speaking of gaming analogies lately, this show is that pushed into the extreme. Asuna is my favorite anime heroine: strong, supportive of Kirito and a firm believer in his mission, playful and vulnerable when it matters, and a badass with a sword!

Lurker finally chimes in, I have to recommend an anime to you.

Sailor Moon! The funny thing is, it's heralded as a "girl power"/feminist anime, but it actually manages to portray a lot of different personality types. I think it's very well balanced in being empowering, but not putting down femininity. Definitely a gem of pre-Tumblr times.

Usagi, for example, is super adorable with her boyfriend, Mamoru. I think you'll like their dynamic, if you want a couple that features a sweet, caring, devoted girlfriend who is feminine without being helpless.

Chibiusa is a little girl. She's a smart cookie for her age. But her dream in life is to be a beautiful lady like her mother, and she starts to fit the part as she grows up. She's a fun character, specially in season 4 (Supers), when she does a lot of maturing.

And Makoto, who is the tall, athletic one. She looks tough, but she has a softer side. She loves to cook, bake, and keep house. She actually has tons of flair for the domestic, it's adorable.

Awesome characters, awesome values. Lots of cute friendships (all the girls are very supportive of Usagi and Mamoru, they're actually quite quick to call her out when she's being irrational.) Plenty of romance and cuteness, too.

In short, I consider it required viewing for any girl. Go with the subtitled version of the original 90s run of it, since the English dub and the new remake kinda lost a bit of character development. I think you'll enjoy that version a lot. :)

Golden Boy.

Kentaro is the master of holding frame, demonstrating value, being outcome independent, and pursuing happiness. Not obvious at the 1st 20 mins but keep watching. Some of the women though, are caricaturized, so take with a grain of salt.

Steins;Gate is a fantastic series, although I never gave thought to RPW concepts in it, but you're right; Christina was unfailingly supportive of Okarin, and every time he had to re-explain the entire situation to her, she ended up believing and trusting, trying to help even when she didn't know how. That's what it means to be a first mate.

Another good series is Fruits Basket; I didn't finish the comics, but the short anime is enough to give you an idea of the RPW traits the main character Tohru embodies. She's always thinking ahead at what others' emotional needs may be, is willing to rough it while keeping her chin up even though both of her parents are gone, and tries to be a positive element in the entire family's lives while staying in their home. She faces cruelty head-on wherever she sees it and always fights to find the best in others, or find the root cause of the negativity they inflict on people, to alleviate or at least understand it. Not to mention, she cooks really well and cleans for them all, essentially to thank them each day for taking her in as a family member - which is always a great way to show gratitude to your host(s.)

Edit: Come to think of it, the female lead in Howl's Moving Castle is a great example of how being a quality human being on the inside is timeless, and even as the years add wrinkles, as long as you are rich with inner qualities, you can make your own happiness... and you will probably find friends wherever you go, affecting other people for the better - even in troubling times when the odds are stacked against you.

Hi, I was supposed to just lurk here (hubby mentioned I should check it out when I was telling him I wish I could talk to more like minded females) but I am so happy to see a post about anime that I decided to say hi!

Anyways, you might enjoy Chobits, Chii is sweet, naive and feminine. Some people will not take her seriously or even look down on her for "being a machine" but she is more kind and caring than some humans. He is a good guy but not a loser, just a simple sweet respectful hard working country boy so he is not biased by technology, he sees and respects her as any other living being.

"It started with a kiss" is a lovely story of how a relationship matures through the years, she is very feminine while the guy is a bit on the stoic/stern side but I've always thought it was endearing how she always loved him and accepted him for who he is and worked hard to be by his side and be a good partner.

Personally I hated Steins Gate but in a similar genre: Tokyo Ghoul

There are actually some RP truths in many Anime if you look closely enough.
