I've seen a few posts lately on dread game and what sort of loyalty to expect from a man who has promised you commitment. I think most women can agree that physical cheating breaks boundaries and is a deal breaker in most contexts, as the basic level of commitment we should expect from a significant other is sexual exclusivity. I was wondering what sorts of other perhaps less serious activity would break your boundaries (I'm thinking of the thread on the guy who is travelling with another girl that's not his SO) and what you would categorize instead as successful dread game (flirting with a waiter). The thread with the ex-fiance really made me think.

Obviously different women will have different thresholds, and would I be right to say that a general rule of thumb is any activity that makes you seriously uncomfortable? Sometimes I feel like my emotions are irrational and I would be better ignoring them.

In other words, how close of a relationship are you comfortable with your SO having with other women? What would be the breaking point for you personally?

I have a bad gut feeling on some girl my SO is talking to. He knows the girl is clearly into him but he says he's not into her and likes the attention. I wasn't at first mad that he was chatting with her (he has tons of admirers) but he didn't react well when, after a couple of weeks of everyday back and forth banter, I told him I thought it seemed unfair to lead her on since she clearly liked him. After he didn't react well, I started to become more insecure about the situation and now I'm constantly going around in circles picking fights with him about it when I feel like I should really just shut up and trust him. He did finally tell her he was in a relationship, but I'm having trouble controlling my insecurities when I see an incoming text come from her. It also doesn't help that I caught him in a few drunk lies (things I think he just thought I wanted to hear) but I really, really hurt his feelings when I confessed I now take anything he says drunk with a grain of salt.

And, it obviously makes me want him more, so you could say it's working in other areas of the relationship but I don't want to pick fights anymore. At the same time, I'm not sure if I'm being a doormat here but I feel asking him to completely cut contact would be an extreme request.

EDIT: For example: How would you feel if a girl asked your SO out to coffee and he decided to go? Happy hour? Dinner? How would you feel if your SO was the one who did the asking instead? I don't think I would be able to handle my SO asking and then paying for a dinner date with another girl, but if some girl hit him up for happy hour and he went, I'd be jealous, but wouldn't end the relationship over it.

EDIT2: Does anyone have any examples where their gut feeling was proven or disproven in the context of dread game and boundaries? Any other stories about what was ok but what you couldn't handle?
