I'm trying to keep this as brief as I can, but I'm terrible with brevity so please bear with me ;) I would really appreciate it.

I recently became a stay at home wife and it has been quite an adjustment. My problem is in motivation and time management and I'm wondering how stay at home wives without children (or with. Welcome to all input) organize their days and deal with prioritizing.

Here are the tools I am trying so far and the trouble I'm having with those tools: Seeing keeping the house up and making sure Husband doesn't ever need to worry about house work as my new full time job. This is helpful to me, but also more difficult than I imagined. When I'm at home I've got all kinds of temptations around me since I am in my comfortable place and am constantly finding new things that need tending to, like doing the dishes and suddenly realizing the cabinets all need to be reorganized. One task reminds me that there are others I should do and no matter how much I tell myself to remember my priorities it kind of chips away at my feelings of productivity. I'll complete the list of things I set out to do that day, but still can't forget about those darn cabinets and feel like I did an incomplete job and feel bad about it.

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to stay on task better? I have started setting a timer where I must work for an hour and then can have a 10 minute break and am writing this during my break time ;), so I will be able to get to the replies in another hour. Some of it obviously is purely willpower, but I'm hoping there are some "tricks" to boosting willpower until my new habits become second nature. Quotes to remember, mindset changes, or just a plain old kick in the pants.

Another thing I've tried to change is switching my focus from just house work to more specifically making sure he is taken care of. Previously I considered my bare minimum to get at least four chores done every day, but now my bare minimum is making sure he has all of his needs met - lunch packed and clothes clean and ready for work the next day, dinner when he gets home, and though it's not a "need," looking at least somewhat put together when he gets home - not necessarily full makeup and a dress, but definitely not simply atrocious. Depending on what four chores I would do before, none of them might have been particularly helpful to him.

The problem I'm having with that is that when I completed my minimum duties before I could feel at least mostly alright about it even though I would prefer to go above the minimum. My bare minimum being only taking care of Husband still kind of makes me feel lazy and crappy and like I didn't really accomplish much when I've had a day where I could only accomplish those minimum things. It isn't Husband's job to pat me on the back on all those days and tell me I've met expectations and should be happy and guilt-free. That lack of guilt and sense that I'm carrying my weight can only come from within, and when I don't get feedback on what I'm doing and don't have anything I can look at and clearly see my progress I'm finding it difficult to really feel positive and proud of the work I do as a wife.

Illness is NOT an excuse to be a lazy slob all the time, but I do have limitations as far as energy and abilities because of some health issues that are the reason I no longer work outside the home. I have a pretty finite amount of energy, so sometimes even the minimum feels like climbing a mountain, so simply increasing my bare minimum is only going to be counterproductive because I know I can only do so much. By increasing my minimum there would be many days I would be unable to meet it, thus destroying my confidence and motivation even further. So "cheat codes" on how to get things done without running myself ragged would also be helpful. We cannot afford to hire a housekeeper. Thank you in advance ladies, and any gentlemen who may care to offer some advice.
