“Claiming that women are different to men because of their feminine intuition, their caring side or their gentle nature is an old and ugly form of sexism. Women are taking a leading role in fighting this virus, but not because they are biologically predisposed to do so.”

Only a female reporter could say something so bold (aka right on the nose) these days. Kudos to her for calling out sexist bullshit for what it smells like.

[–]BurnerKiwi 88 points89 points90 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How ironic is that statement the media tout at the moment.

Imagine how quickly you would be attacked if you said more women go away from STEM and into lower paying, caring type roles because of their “predisposed caring nature”.

Seems these statements are only ok when it suits.

[–]XavierMalory 36 points37 points38 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That’s an excellent point. And God forbid you take the neutral route and say that the reason a lot of women don’t go into STEM is because they simply don’t have interest in it, which could be due to the way their brains are wired compared to men.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6013760/

This study suggests that, interestingly, there actually isn’t a major difference between male and female brains, however, to quote the the research:

“Close-to-zero differences were found for mathematical and verbal abilities, both psychological domains for which strong sex/gender differences have been proposed and reported in single studies. Only for the mental rotation of 3D objects have substantial performance differences been identified, with men and boys outperforming women and girls (d = 0.51–0.73) 24, 25.”

Hmmm... STEM is comprised of fields of studies that require excellent spatial reasoning, which men tend to excel in more-so than women... color me surprised.

[–]boxsterguy 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say all STEM requires spatial reasoning. In fact, I'd argue most doesn't, outside of some physical engineering disciplines, computer graphics, and maybe surgery. The rest is mostly non-geometric math.

[–]ILOVEBOPIT 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s huge in organic chemistry which is a necessary prerequisite to do anything medical.

I wonder if it’s sort of an upbringing thing causing the discrepancy. Maybe because males are more inclined to play video games, or maybe they play with blocks and lego more and that helps? It would be an interesting research topic.

[–]p3ngwin 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Imagine how quickly you would be attacked if you said more women go away from STEM and into lower paying, caring type roles because of their “predisposed caring nature”.

yep, imagine claiming women go for the "soft/pink sciences" because they relate to the blah blah blah.....

You'd be roasted.

[–]penmanship216 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah the fact that women are less effected by it (I think last I read 70% of deaths are male?) has something to do with the perception, I'm sure.

Also can't wait for all the "majority of deaths are male, women most effected" headlines (there have already been some).

[–]CargoShorts88 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women are the primary victims of coronavirus, as they are the primary victims of war, because they lose male relatives to it.

[–]penmanship216 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Haha, yeah I guess by that logic no murdered person can ever be the primary victim of murder! We really need to rewrite how our crime statistics are categorized in light of this powerful revelation!

[–]TheStumblingWolf 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would say biology works with tendencies and not absolutes. In my experience it's true that it's more common for women to have these traits, but to attribute them to anyone who was born a woman is, in my book, a misrepresentation of how life works.

Actions should be the weight carrying element. If a majority of people who fought well against Covid-19 just happen to be women - I have no problem with it.

[–]destarolat 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But she is wrong. I agree that the selective sexism feminists do is bullshit, as in for feminists it is sexist when you say men and women are different to point out that males do better in some area, but it is completely fine to point out that females do better than males in another area.

Males and females are different, including mentally. In some areas those difference make no impact, but in some others one sex tends to be better than the other. So it is not necessarily sexists to say that females are better than men for some task and viceversa.

[–]XavierMalory 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She’s wrong? How so? You mean that women are biologically in a better position to be leaders simply because they’re women?

Of course the genders have roles; thats been the case in biology and nature for literally thousands of years, but not in this particular situation.

Does it have the brain/expertise/qualification?

Yes - give it the job

No - give it not the job

Has a c**t?

How does this even factor in???

What's this crap with "female doctors", "female scientists", "female politicians". Frankly, there are fields where only facts (should) matter. Why should a certain genital anatomy qualify as relevant in these fields?

Pretty repulsive, really.

[–]XavierMalory 33 points34 points35 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Has a c**t?”

This is where the term “pussypass” comes from. Agreed, what you have between your legs (especially today with over 60 genders) should not matter at all in your qualifications for a job that requires mental aptitude.

I don't know whether to laugh or to get angry.

[+]Rhayn086 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

" For years, people have argued for greater female representation in parliament or public life because women apparently create a more consensual, caring atmosphere that leads to better decision-making. "

Yeah, whoever claims this has never worked with a large number of women. When there's a large group, caring atmosphere is the exact opposite of what happens.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let people be ignorant, they’ll reap what they sow soon enough

[–]Purpleburglar 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Forbes article chooses to list either the Prime Minister or the president as the country's leader depending on whichever one is female. Almost each listed country has a Male PM or president. They also conveniently leave out Canada and South Korea. In other words, it's feminist cherry-picking.

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Excellent point!

[–]Drekalo 58 points59 points60 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Caring? Have you ever seen a woman argue/debate? Shit gets nasty, quick.

[–]thefudmaster 27 points28 points29 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When someone gets nasty in an argument, it means they have lost.

[–]weaponized_seal -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Saying that women are bad in a debate, beacouse they are women is as bad a saying that they are better fighting COVID for the same reason. The diplomatic abilities of somebody does nothing to do with their gender.

[–]Drekalo 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's not what I was referring to at all. Saying that they're more caring as an absolute when there's significant public evidence that women can be outright mean during debate or other verbal affairs is just patently false.

[–]weaponized_seal 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah Ok, I guess that I understood it wrongly. But yeah same, being a man or a woman doesn't make you more or less of an asshole

[–]BurnerKiwi 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I’m from NZ

Our PM has done a good job, but it’s not because she’s a women, nor has she done it alone. There’s so many factors to our country working at the moment, and it all falls into line very conveniently.

  • our population density is one of the lowest in the world (167 least dense / 200 countries )
  • we had huge forewarning with other countries because it reached here later. We simply copied the things that worked in other countries
  • we have good health care and sanitation
  • a relatively low population
  • an abiding lot of citizens (for the most part). Made much easier by the 12 BILLION dollars given to employers to forward to employees who are out of work / proven making less due to COVID.
  • a director general of health who is exceptional (Dr Ashley Bloomfield)

It’s not because she’s a woman, and she is also supported by a whole host of people.

Articles claiming she is the best leader in the world is infuriating, she is a walking economic disaster, and has fulfilled very few of her election promises.

It’s easy to look good when you spend other people’s money.

It’s election year and she’s pretty much just bought her second term by buying votes. I hope NZ sees through it and thinks critically.

[–]Philletto 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm happy your grandkids are paying for all this. Let them be the conservative wave.

[–]Mens_rights_matter2 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I appreciate when an article pointing out the ridiculous double standards is written by a female. There are many logical women out there that understand how the cards are stacked for them.

[–]chambertlo 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Only a woman would say something so audacious and factually incorrect.

[–]omegaphallic[S] 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LMFAO I see what you did there.

[+]weaponized_seal -20 points-19 points-18 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thats exactlly the same as what you are complaining. Stop assuming things based on gender

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

America is run by trump, America is doing bad. Germany is run by Merkel, Germany is doing good.

Therefore women>men

/s

[–]skgody 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Jacinda Ardern did a disgusting job. New Zealand is an isolated nation in the South Pacific. It has no land borders with any other countries. The entire country was locked down because the Government could not control the borders. The whole country has a lockdown that never should have happend as it could have been easily stopped at the border. For people in New Zealand it should have remained Business as usual. If anyone thinks Jacinda Ardern did a good job then they are stupid. She closed the border with China but not With other countries that were also vectors for contagion. Now the whole country is in lockdown and a few people have died And that could have been 100% avoidable. So what if a few other leaders did far worse. She still did not do a good job.

[+]TheVoluntaryBeggar1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Just like Mrs. Merkel discovered - it's easy to close your borders once nobody wants to cross them.
She was late to the job.
I know Germany had to put a lot of effort into flying all their citizens out of New Zealand.

It's a lot easier if you can just kick out all the foreigners in the country, but in countries like mine that isn't an option.

NZ can now reinvent itself as a land without tourism. It will do them good and I wish them well.

[–]skgody 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

New Zealand has become shit for New Zealanders. No local discounts for locals means that it’s not New Zealanders that are catered for. It’s just way too expensive for New Zealanders. The huge amount of distance to get to New Zealand also looks bad from an environmental perspective.

[+]TheVoluntaryBeggar1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Here in Germany we shall all be taking holidays domestically, if at all.

You'd think that the local tourist industries will do well to start marketing an affordable experience rather than just ground the money maker at a tourist trap.

NZ has a chance to jump a year or two ahead of the rest of us who'll have to keep our heads down.

Let's see what she's got.

[–]skgody 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I hope they can get the prices under control but I think a lot of places will go broke in the process.

[–]genkernels 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey, at least your leader closed with China.

[–]skgody 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it’s kind of amazing when you consider how many Chinese are in New Zealand.

[–]rabel111 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've also heard that people with red hair have superior multitasking abilities in combination with creative thinking, making them the only right choice for leadership roles in government. Damn.

[–]falsekoala 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would say smarter people have handled it better. Doesn’t have anything to do with gender, per say.

[–]DoubleDollars69 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I still don't understand how they claimed Germany to be doing well. I mean its leading yes, but in terms of number of cases.

[–]jahsehonfroyv1 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Newzealander here, she's a terrible prime minister

[–]greypiano 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For all the talk about Angela Merkel doing an amazing job, Germany is No. 5 in the worldwide number of cases. Belgium has a woman prime minister and they are No. 12 in the world which is very high for a small country.

Vietnam has a man as its prime minister and it has only 268 cases in total, astonishing for a country bordering China. Sri Lanka has a man as its prime minister and has only 309 cases. India has a man as its prime minister and it has only 18,000 cases in a country of 1.3 billion people. We can go on and on.

[–]Neveah_Hope_Dreams 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My prime minister!

Yeah, she's great and is doing a great job. Thankful to have her. Don't those feminazi's freaking dare bring sex and women in this. Especially bringing in my leader to this argument!

[–]MarsNirgal 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I was expecting to find statistics.

[–]H0boHumpinSloboBabe 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Facts are a part and parcel of the patriarchy! Don't believe facts!

/s

[–]MarsNirgal 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, so far we haven't even been given facts to make an opinion.

I'm gonna say (and a lot of people in this sub will probably disagree), that there may be a common underlying cause that might actually create this trend.

In general, countries with a stronger focus on liberal, progressive values are more likely to have female leaders, while more traditional and conservative countries are less likely to have them.

Now, I do believe that progressive values help to fight better coronavirus because, in the first place, they are related to stronger and more comprehensive social safety networks, including better access to healthcare, better chances to work from home, and more tools to fight off poverty. So this all means that amongst the countries that are more fit to respond to this crisis, it would be more likely to also find female leaders, with both events having an underlying cause.

[–]beerhiker 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Guys, women are "rockstars"

I don't know what we'd do without these women!

And don't forget guys, a significant number of these evidence-loving rock stars are women.

Lol.

What a joke.

[–]Eastuss 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women are taking a leading role in fighting this virus, but not because they are biologically predisposed to do so.

Yes they are biologically predisposed to do so, they literally die less from it. But that's only a perk when fighting it directly.

This article is having bad arguments. You could showcase the countries that did well with male leaders. There are probably other arguments showing that this is just the usual feminist media cherry-picking for sensationalism.

[–]Naghen 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Conte in Italy has more than 60% of public approval, historical record.

Jacinta Arden has done possibly the best in the world with dealing with COVID-19.

I wonder if being the Prime Minister of an island has anything to do with it?

[–]Neveah_Hope_Dreams 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Not really. It's just we got it when we had enough facts and research on the virus so we knew that lockdown was the best and quickest decision to fight the virus.

[–]Philletto 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This really is the socialists all high fiving themselves. We are nowhere near the bottom of the economic depression this is creating. That will really silence the crowd.

[–]perplexedm 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

we got it when we had enough facts and research on the virus

Dude, the world haven't had enough of that facts and research yet.

You only know that isolation is required, don't even know for how many days.

[–]Neveah_Hope_Dreams 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know that. There's still research to do, especially on the vaccine. In my country's case we have extended level 4 for another week to be safe than sorry and it's really taken effect.

[+]romulusnr -13 points-12 points-11 points 6 years ago* (15 children) | Copy Link

Or perhaps countries that are run by reason and science are more likely to think that women can be effective leaders just as men.

Edit: True colors come out in here too easily

Edit2: Motherfuckers are so blindingly insane in here that they cannot read a fucking sentence. Not my problem.

[–]XavierMalory 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps, but that’s not what’s being peddled here as fresh cowpies and calling it apple pie. It’s the fact that the media is trying to claim that women are effective leaders simply because of the vagina between their legs.

Also your edit would have most people peg you as trolling at this point.

[–]romulusnr 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wait, when the fuck, did I say any of that?

What the fuck is wrong with people here, you hear things that aren't being said. Are you just chock full of knee-jerk reactionism that you have lost the ability to read a fucking sentence?

Jesus H fucking christ, get outside sometime, wear a mask and breathe the fresh air outside the bubble.

[–]XavierMalory 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never said you did say any of that. I was merely pointing out the theme of the OP; a person in the media who is going against the mass media’s agenda of trying to label female as being superior for the sake of being female.

Nice rant by the way, though very defensive. Especially the bit about knee jerk reactions. Your entire response is exactly that. You sure you aren’t the one who needs a little fresh air? Slinging curse words and insults just shows others you’re not in a position to have a rational discussion.

[–]chambertlo 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. Lmao.

[–]Auntie_Hero 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Is THAT why Indira Ghandi had tens of millions of men forcibly sterilized?

[–]perplexedm 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was not Indira Gandhi, but her son Sanjay Gandhi who was totally a ridiculous guy. She was in power at that time and didn't properly act against him. There were even rumors that Indira Gandhi was behind his death.

Moreover, there are govt. programs even now providing some minor facilities for willfully getting vasectomy.

Ram Rahim of Dera Sacha Sauda has been prosecuted for being involved in enforcing the castration of hundreds of followers; Ram Rahim has denied the charges. On 5 October 2018 he was granted bail by a Panchkula CBI court in the case involving castration of 400 of his followers.

Learn to logic my friend. You've heard of evil male leaders, yes? Stalin? Pol Pot? Mr. Hilter? Fun fact, both evil people and good people can be either male or female.

Learn to logic my friend.

We're not friends and you're not the one to be talking about logic. Picking female leaders by gender is just as stupid as picking male leaders by gender. You're too fucking dumb to understand THAT, you're too fucking dumb to be wasting any more of my time.

Good day sir.
