This is not exactly a relationship question...but on some level it is, in the sense that I'm looking for help getting the day to day household running more smoothly so that I have more energy to spend on other things.

I am not such a great housekeeper. But I'm a stay at home mom, and so housekeeping has become a major part of my life. I'm a good cook, and I love planning meals, grocery shopping, cooking, baking...I get the kids involved, and my husband loves to chime in too, so it's fun for us all. But I really do not love cleaning and organizing. Obviously it needs to get done though!

Does anyone have any tips on keeping a fairly small apartment reasonably clean and neat with 2 small kids? My husband works long hours and I really don't want him to have to come home and clean. He also takes care of the laundry every week (he gets it done by the local laundromat). But I would love to get the kids involved, where possible.

I've read advice that says just clean one room a day. But that doesn't really work when you have a small kids making messes in every room...they are old enough to clean up after themselves, but only under supervision.

Mostly, I'd like to get the cleaning and organizing running smoothly so that I dont have to think so much about it -- my husband actually said to me, I dont care if the floor is dirty, I want you to relax and just spend time with me. But if I neglect things for too long, I'll get cranky and overwhelmed. I need a way out of this all-or-nothing cycle!
