It's a vicious cycle. Women don't compliment men, so when they do compliment we see it as something significant, then they get upset because they weren't actually coming on to us, so they never compliment again, a huge, shit cycle.

Women are already given so much attention and encouragement everywhere they go. They just think that is normal. They think life is like that for everyone.

They complain about getting too much attention. Which is understandable in their position.

The only people who compliment me are my parents or grandparents. They always, only say positive things. But sometimes when they say I look great, I don’t. I love them for their positivity but sometimes they give me false compliments. Then at some point, those compliments start losing their meaning. Maybe I’m just thinking too low of myself.

Have you tried going to a gay club? I mean, you’ll get all sorts of positive affirmations there and ... gay guys are men too, so you don’t have to worry about anything sexual you don’t want. I mean, if you want the type of compliments women get daily, go find people you really aren’t attracted to and have them send you pictures of them naked and tell you how much sex they want with you.

Many women just have their girlfriends constantly compliment and support them. Go to a gay bar and get that same support. You’ll be surprised to find many women also are starved for attention and will mistake any compliment as flirting and may be interested as well.

Women don’t live in such a different world as we think!

This explains quite a bit, that this is a meme and it's got this many upvotes.

I am very fortunate to not be typical in a number of ways.

I was planned. Like literally I have been told the story of how I was planned and prayed for and quite literally am an answer to their prayers.
My parents put me in everything, so I have a wide variety of experiences in stuff that I am not necessarily interested in. And I am generally good enough to get complimented on how quickly I learn things, how much I know, how well I articulate my thoughts, etc.
Because of my parents unconditional positive regard, even though I didn't really make any friends until I entered middle school and high school, I had enough self confidence that I didn't feel compelled to conform. I knew my worth because I had be told how great I am by my folks and other adults so often, that while the rejection of my peers hurt when I was young, it wasn't something I believed to be my fault.

Honestly, according to my wife, most people don't get as genuinely complimented as I do. I do get complimented a lot, but I generally assume it's just people being nice. I have never even thought about the frequency, but it's at least daily. I compliment people with genuine compliments that are specific, so I assume it's a response to that most of the time.

The point being, I have seen this dude's reply happening with other guys, and I have always been confused by it.

I have no problem simply genuinely being a friend with attractive women, wether or not I am interested in dating them. In fact, if I wouldn't be friends with an attractive woman, I think of them as pieces of art - in the sense that is the extent of my relationship with them. Nice to look at, but terrible to talk to.

I have always wondered why it seems like lots of other guys, including better looking guys who are in way better shape physically and/or financially, seem to think that any girl that so much as smiles at them is "into" them?

And if this meme is true for like, any significant portion of the population, holy shit that's fucked and holy shit do I owe my parents one hell of a retirement life.
