Watch an 80s or early 90s movie and look at the male leads in them compared to now. Before, guys could have some extra pounds, but not now. You have to be hyper-lean with abs, huge biceps and be over six feet. Its crazy its not talked about more

Let's face it: it's much, much harder for a man to be attractive than a woman. A man must be tall, broad-shouldered, muscular, have a nice head of hair, etc. a woman just has to not be fat.

Right. And probably the most significant standard (that's perpetuated by women IRL, and not just the media) is being really tall. Which is completely unattainable for the majority of men, with 14% in the US being 6 feet or taller

The real problem with male attractiveness is that it's so hugely dependent on genetics, i.e. being tall, having a good jawline, full hair, large penis etc. And men aren't even allowed to complain about lacking in those departments because there's a general lack of empathy towards men ("just be confident", "deal with it" etc.) and because people still think women cannot be shallow about looks.

You're leaving out the most surreal part. The bodies of most of these. Faces aren't really the issue for most women. They usually complain about bodies while most female bodies on TV are actually achievable with minimal work compared to men. Good luck trying to look like the Rock. Or Jason Statham.

When I was in college, I told my counselor that I wanted to be a man so that I wouldn’t get picked on for my looks or my sexual history (or lack thereof). I was having a hard time and thought that if I were a guy, all of that wouldn’t matter. She very pointedly, but kindly, told me that guy’s get picked on for that stuff as well. It goes both ways, as neither genders are excluded.

It caught me off guard, but it helped me build empathy and realize I wasn’t the only one going through crap.

As an author who has sold some books, yes you can make your characters unattractive/heavily flawed (some of the most successful fantasy in history has had such characters), but the majority of your characters will ultimately be very good looking/idealized. People want to read about them. People want to see them in games. Mass Effect Andromeda gave the main woman an extra chromosome or something and she just looked like shit. As a result a lot of people just did not want to buy the game.

Unrealistic beauty standards sell. Complaining about it is ridiculous because people make a living off of how much their material sells.

unrealistic beauty standards and unrealistic expectations that they either be some kind of guy rolling in money and or the incredible hulk and male beauty standards are worst because I think there's a certain amount of dehumanization involved in the current establishments idea of what a man and or that is to say you are suppose to have it together all the time and or not need help and if not then man up and deal with your problems and that is not possible for any one regardless of gender.

The problem isn't unrealistic models for men, the problem is men comparing their bodies to models in the first place. Trying too hard to have an attractive body etc is an extremely feminine attitude towards your own body. If you're trying to position yourself as an object of desire rather than the desiring subject, you're either gay (not saying that in a judgemental way) or internalized feminine models of sexuality (which in many ways is the same thing). For fuck sucks guys, man the fuck up.

I don't necesarilly think that this beauty standards are sexual as most of the women are. I think beauty standards for man are about looking powerful, plump, big and all the stereotypical macho looking. Also, these standards are made BY men "FOR" men while women are also made by men for men, in consequence, yes... there is a " patriarchal " problem where we teach young boys that they have to be big enough to have a supermodel girlfriend.

Go back to children's tales and reread Sleeping Beauty. She was cursed. But the cursed went into effect because her parents, trying to shelter her, didn't warn her about it and tried to keep all spindles forbidden in their kingdom. As a result, she was unable to recognize danger and ended up comatose, raped (in the original story) and unwilling mother of twins. The lesson? Don't try to protect children from reality (ie: there are more attractive people than you). Teach them to deal with it.

In my opinion most video game and movie character seem like tough bad ass gritty characters I think as a teen most look at the characters abilities and personality people didn't want to look like Bruce Lee but they wanted to woop some ass like him I didn't want Goku body just wanted the ability to Kamehameha the idea of having a better body didn't come till after high school
