Usually, boys aren't wearing butt-crack revealing garments or skirts which show too much leg. That might have something to do with it.

It's complete bullshit! This is something which the student, their parents and the media insinuate as a result of the school's action to send that student home. The student is sent home for violating the dress code..... that's all - the single and sole reason for that action. A boy would doubtless be sent home for turning up wearing the same or violating the code in the same way; there'd just be no insinuation that he was sent home because his choice of attire distracts girls because as far as These people are concerned (or want it portrayed) girls are above that and concentrate solely on study!

Okay, let's have a show of hands from the few girls in the subreddit and be fucking honest. How many of you have teased a guy you like and noticed he's been completely unable to look away? It's biological instinct, everyone with a brain knows that, if a guy finds a girl attractive he's not going to be able to stop himself from looking.

Now if he's acting on that desire and being a total cunt, yes, that's a bad thing if she's not interested in it, but this is more sex negative bullshit from feminists who have no clue how men actually think or how their bodies work.

I think there's something to be said about being a distraction to the teachers. And I'm not really thinking about the few male teachers, I'm talking about the women. In general, women look down on others that are prettier than themselves, especially if they are in close proximity. It's one thing to look at pretty girls on Instagram or make-up tutorials on YouTube, but having a young, fertile girl around an older woman, "flaunting" her virility makes the teacher feel bad about what she once had. And with the spitefulness of a woman scorned, they do what they can do: turn them into the principal's office to make them wear frumpy clothes.

I wish both sides would just say it's not appropriate for the environment rather than saying it's a distraction. Treat school like a job and if you don't dress for the job then you get fired/sent home.

It happens every year when school starts up. The culprit is usually some prudish woman with puritan beliefs. When challenged, the woman blames "distracted boys." The boys meanwhile don't give a damn. But the narrative quickly focuses on boys who apparently cannot control themselves. It happens every time, and the media and the tumblr army falls for it every time.

One terrible example that I remember from a few years back had to do with a school dance for home schooled kids. Some girl and her date were sent home by a woman due to dress code. The woman who sent them home commented that some of the dads who were chaperones complained about how the girl dressed (didn't happen). So the girl blogs about how the perverted dads were ogling her and how girls should be able to dress how they like and how men need to control their impure thoughts. The media picked it up and the dads who volinteered fot the dance became international villains. People later came to the defense of the dads and said that they never said anything.

Athough the dad angle was lated debunked, the news stories still exist

It's just an excuse they use. When I was in school I saw things like this several times. A teacher doesn't like something about a students clothes. The teacher confronts the student and tries to shame them and tells them they have to change because "It's causing a distraction". Then the student disagrees. The teacher starts yelling ranting and raving which draws everyone's attention. The teacher then points out all the people who are now distracted. The student blames this on the student. The student points out it's the teacher being a distraction. Then the teacher gets a principal or assistant principal and proceeds to lie about the entire situation. Something like "I asked so and so politely to change something about their clothes because all the students around were distracted because of it amd so and so refused". Then in the principals office the student calls the teacher a liar and the principal to call any of the students that were witnesses to ask them. The principal the refuses and threatens to expel the student if they keep resisting citing that the student is in the principals office as proof their dress is causing a distraction.

I've seen these posts too. Funny how my mom's school had a strict dress code, even though it was an all-girls school. No issue with distracting boys there, right? Why the need for the dress code?

I don't think this should be about the opposite sex. Schools have the right to make sure students dress appropriately. Girls should not wear clothes that show their bra straps and midriffs because it is inappropriate to do that in an academic environment, not because it distracts boys.
