Hmmm I think I'm inclined to agree with the person who replied to a re-post, this looks suspiciously lacking in information. We have no company name, no background so we can't verify a thing. Granted, you hear all the time about some seriously shitty places to work at and this sort of thing has has been suggested in the original link provided that this is pretty illegal so I wonder how legit the story even is.

This is illegal and not because of the mild gender discrimination, employers aren't allowed to fine employees, it's a theft of wages.

TBH I don't think that it's a sexist employer, he or she is an outright cunt, who wants to find reasons to lower the pay of his or her employees. Maybe it's just a simple observation that her or his male customers don't use straws, so it's just for profit reasons. So yeah, I don't think it's a female vs male issue rather than the employer an asshole to her or his employees.

While I don't agree with the idea of fines there is a good reason to make sure women have straws. Lipstick is very difficult to get off of glass.

This isn't really sexism. The reason females are given straws is that they wear lipstick, which gets all over the glass (also it messes up their lipstick). When it goes through the dishwasher, sometimes it doesn't come off.
