Surprisingly good column. She calls it what it is - toxic - and laments that not enough men stand up against bigoted gynocentrism. She encourages other women to speak out against the "where have all the good men gone?" nonsense and stop reducing men to a utility. Can't really ask for much more than that.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I do not think men give a second thought to a comment like this other than "another example of feminism wrecking women's lives".

[–]dungone 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, by the time these women get to the age when they are spouting this shit, most men have long ago learned to ignore them sexually. But that's not the standard we should use when speaking out against bigotry. In fact, if that's the standard then many of the men who don't give it a second thought are really no better than the douchebag who still wants to get into the broad's pants and says, "here I am!".

Here's the issue, which the author alluded to. Men are enabling these women. They enabled them for the first 10-15 years of allowing themselves to be treated like garbage. That's why these women don't start asking "where have all the good men gone?" until their 30's.

[–]NefariouslySly 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its not just "some" men but whole societies and laws enabling them.

Edit: some men, societal norms, and laws contribute a lot to this

[–]neveragoodtime 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Enabling women" by being told to never hit a girl, go out of your way to cater to her. And then surprise, they become enabled princesses lamenting on Facebook that her prince hasn't arrived. Decent men will show up when she becomes a decent woman.

[–]CornyHoosier 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Most guys do an eye roll and keep scrolling.

[–]Deefry 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"They're with the decent women."

[–]Wargame4life 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

indeed, good men and good women are in roughly the same ratio

[–]ckiemnstr345 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They also pair off quickly and don't separate often.

[–]RunawayGrain 61 points62 points63 points 10 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

What she is really asking is "Where is the hot, built, multimillionaire, commitment averse but willing to commit to me, blonde hair, blue eyed, tall but not too tall, emotionally attached but stoic, ambitious himself but doesn't expect me to contribute much, powerful male that I deserve?" It basically boils down to modern women having insane standards, and bitching because no man meets those standards. This chick is basically saying they should tone that back a little, without actually taking any substantive action.

I know a lot of single 30 year old women and they quite bluntly say to me and my wife: "there are no good men around, they have all been taken" or "my problem is that I am too nice" like bollocks you are!

It is an excuse because they have not got a boyfriend for longer than 3 months. I get pissed off with it and tell them bluntly it is you not the men.

I do actually think though that a lot of men have given up on women.

The teenage pregnancy rate has halved in the UK in the past 5 years alone:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-31602417

The so called experts say it is better knowledge and a desire by women to concentrate on education. i think the reason is that boys have got masses of porn now and do not pursue girls in the same way. Boys are not bothered any longer.

I am convinced that young men are not pursuing women in the way my friends and I did when we were in our teens and twenties. I honestly think a lot of men do not care any more.

[–]CornyHoosier 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am convinced that young men are not pursuing women in the way my friends and I did when we were in our teens and twenties. I honestly think a lot of men do not care any more.

It's because we're being vilified across all sectors.

In our youth we're told we're too aggressive so are drugged up. When we hit our teens we're told we're too rough with girls so have to treat them delicately. Our cracking voices, odd movement due to readjustment of height and weight and excessive body sweat, grease and hair all add up to making us into rough and scary (note: not handsome) men. In college we're told we're rapists and after college we're told there are too many of us making too much money.

Then fast forward ... throughout our lives society has told us to settle down to get married, get educated and raise a family. Only when we're in our late-teens and early-20's the vast majority of us don't get a lot of female attention.

So then one day an idea pops into our head. How about instead of working as a protector of society and women, what if instead we work on ourselves. We lose the awkward teen looks & we have built up a strong frame from rejection and loses. Also by then, most of us have gained enough enough experience at our jobs that we're more confident in our actions and are likely making more money.

Then fast forward more ... suddenly women are getting interested in us instead of the other way around. For the first time we're the ones sitting there and women are making the advances. We think to ourselves, "Well I have plenty of money, I've looked past all the negative societal-propaganda about me, I'm happy with my job, have lots of friends, get to invest as much time as I want in my hobbies and improving myself and I have a large pool of women who are now interested in me."

So ask yourself, why oh why would any man suddenly choose to settle down at this point when his chips are stacked high?

[–]matthew_lane 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, it's not that there are no good men, there are plenty, they just don't want anything to do with you. If a man is single in his 30's it's because

A. he is busy fucking women in their early 20's

B. Was married & then divorced by a woman who took it all with her & now he wants nothing to do with the hwole marriage thing again.

C. Saw his parents go through a divorce & decided that the system was exactly as toxic as it appeared due to womens hyporgamy & wisely opted out.

[–]Wargame4life 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ultimately with technology and passage of time women ultimately stand to lose, because men have and do lose themselves in their pursuits and its almost expected behaviour, with technology (especially VR gaming becomes totally immersive) more and more guys will be tuning out doing their own thing having fun with their friends and using porn and casual sex for the more animalistic side of their needs.

Having an indepth emotional validation is more essential for women, they seem to be more fixated on social status and the social dynamic.

Men already lived fairly caged emotional lives anyway where they dont depend or expect a support network and just "soldier on" alone, women will be more and more devastated by lack of male desire to form lasting meaningful bonds,

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I totally agree with this just from my experience with my wife.

[–]Wargame4life 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

just ask yourself how many times you have seen a guy been jealous of a woman's hobbies (not people) and being jealous that they are not spending enough time together, (I've never seen it once), now how many times have you seen a woman sulk and complain that her boyfriend spends too much time on his hobbies and pursuits etc and not enough on her.

Women will lose out big as time moves forward, its delicious they have done it to themselves rather than competing against "distraction x" they have gone worse and made themselves a less attractive way to spend time with. so its no surprise men in greater and greater numbers are turning their backs on relationships.

[–]AnonGoesOnline 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I personally and think its a problem for most young man, don't pursue women because I'm poor and don't have nothing to offer.

Holy shit! That is good news ... is it not?

The charity says the UK is still lagging behind other countries in Western Europe. According to their records in 2012 the UK had lower teenage pregnancy rates than only Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia of the 28 countries of the European Union.

Oh!

I would venture to guess that porn increases one's need for women, not decreases it. I think you are assuming that sexual desire is fixed, but I don't think it is. I think porn increases your need.

I do agree with you though that men are giving up. Mgtow is becoming a thing, at least in canada, u.s., and Australia. Look how the term usage has gone up in the last decade: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=Mgtow&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT%2B8

[–]Neolions 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Porn stimulates your sex drive because you don't need to go and work for a girlfriend to see the same thing you can on the computer.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Neolions, I agree with you. I do think that if i was bought up in this day and age I would be far less likely to go out chasing girls. In fact I would not have bothered for fear of being accused of something. But women cannot have it both ways. Complain about aggressive sexual advances and also complain no one "chats them up" anymore.

[–]Neolions 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Speaking of this day and age. I think the meaning of a girlfriend is changing. More for social interaction than sex.

[–]hackableyou 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree it gives you options other than women, but I think many people may look at sex drive as a fixed pie and say if we fill the pie with 80% porn we only need 20% women instead of 100% women. I am saying I think porn will make the pie become bigger.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Insane standards AND expecting men to conform and change for them, when they aren't willing to themselves. These are the kinds of women that will constantly post about what a "real man" is, and what they do/don't do. And these "real men" posts typically follow the theme of the man being your typical disney prince.

[–]Definately_God 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Physical attributes aside (because face it, we all want the best we can get), the money thing is infuriating - its as if the difference in income is on a sliding scale. It seems like the traditional man makes 100% and woman makes 0% has become man makes 60% and woman makes 40% in reality but the expectation in many women that complain is that men should cover the divide in order to maintain their position as an acceptable mate by increasing their contribution so the couple has more than 100% of their earnings. The biggest problem with this of course is that women entering the workforce has increased the supply of labor which reduces the equilibrium wage and makes it more difficult for men to out earn women by a substantial degree simply as a result of women entering the workforce. Oh, and according to what I've seen on the news, presidential debates, etc., we need laws to tip it even further in that direction.

Everyone knows there is a gap between the amount of money that men make and the amount of money that women make.

But this is because men work more hours, and acquire jobs that pay more. There is equal pay for equal work, but men are doing more work. There's also a difference in pay between janitors and brain surgeons, but janitors don't complain of a "wage gap" and say it's unfair that they aren't paid the same.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most of the time when I see these types of posts it's from women who aren't that great, in fact, their bitchy, unstable and have a princess complex. And I always want to say something like "if you're smelling shit wherever you go, check your own shoe." These women who talk about "where are all the good men?" see them as a commodity. If the men aren't able to please them, there's something wrong with the man, not them. To them, the men must conform to what they want and need, if they can't or are unwilling, they are pieces of shit.

[–]Clockw0rk 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to say something, possibly controversial.

I think that women in the west have a culture problem.

I reference Ben Shapiro's glorious rebuke video, here, with regards to racism vs 'the American black culture problem'.

It seems like modern feminism, western feminism, has inserted itself into the general culture of the west. Celebrities and politicians both parrot talking points of victimhood narrative; from the pay gap to artificially high rape claims. This sort of mentality changes people. This is a mentality of persecution. This is a mentality of enfeeblement.

If you believe that you're worth less by default, then you try less. People that see disadvantage as a challenge to be overcome are few and far between. If you tell people that they need special treatment to be on the same level, they have less self confidence and less drive to do truly great things.

And so, this pandemic of pedantic bitching over sexist air conditioning, manspreading, and mansplaining takes its toll not just on the feminists spreading the negativity, but also on everyone around them. We're constantly being exposed to "secondhand ideas" from friends, family, and even day-to-day strangers.

So when I see people in this sub, or anywhere else, say "who cares what they think?"... My god, seriously? How do you think this shit spreads? You have to correct the lies and stop the misinformation the moment you see it. Especially in this age of social media, one friend tells ten friends, and they tell ten friends each, and so on.. Suddenly one lunatic's ideas become the tint in the glasses of 20,000 followers. And people who believe what they hear from people they know quickly become unknowing tools in a mind-boggling mob rule.

Take the pay gap myth, for example. The reason it still exists is because the volume of real information is not greater than the noise of misinformation. If the truth was front page news on every news paper/site in the world tomorrow, the misinformation would die swiftly. When authority refuses to tell the truth, or outright lies, people accept it as the truth strictly because of the authority involved.

So I believe that, due largely in part to the media's contributions, the women in the west have a culture problem. They're being raised to believe that most men are monsters, and that they will have to fight to be taken seriously; and that kind of thinking breeds a default resentment towards society. And they're also raised to believe that there will be special accommodations for them, as reparations for the "continuing problem of sexism". They will grow fond of these accommodations, and will prickle at the very idea of questioning why they exist. This is the dangerous nature of believing the message without concern for its source. If it confirms my beliefs, who cares if it's true?

I'm just not sure how to fix it. The narrative is strong. It doesn't matter that there are and have been prominent women in business and government for centuries, they want to rely on their perceived knowledge of history to judge their current place in the world. I think you would have to bring the facts to everyone from every source to shatter the narrative, and there's just too much money involved. Female privilege doesn't want to be dismantled, and it will fight back.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with what you have stated. No one here dislikes women. I also think in some areas they do have more issues to contend with than men and we should and have stood up for them. Most people on this site just want equal treatment between the genders. The problem I have is that the future is unsustainable with the current gender responsibilities and split of duties, rights. I do not want to go back to the old days where my wife stays at home but likewise I do not want to be discriminated against if I as a man looks after the children at home. etc.

[–]Clockw0rk 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know, right?

I'm in this for the Egalitarian end-game. I want everyone to have the same opportunities and rights as everyone else, preferably around the world but definitely here at home first.

The media has/had a responsibility to be truthful and neutral, but now that it makes its money off of controversy, it thrives on being able to promote perceived negativity and draw criticism to fuel further stories. There is no incentive to be honest and neutral, but there is enormous incentive to create concerns about nebulous details and levy unsubstantiated claims citing themselves as the authority.

If our state wasn't so wretchedly corrupt, I would support a state run media to actually be honest about social issues instead of the current misinformation mill.

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason it still exists is because the volume of real information is not greater than the noise of misinformation.

People don't care about the truth, they care about finding someone public with some air of authority that says what they want to believe. They form opinions about the world then seek justifications. They don't look at the world and try to learn how it works, and only then come to decisions.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not a bad article but I would suggest that "what you should say in response" is something like, "avoiding entitled, emotionally immature narcissists like you."

I quite enjoyed reading that actually, but I’m a bit wary of anyone with the job title "life coach” as it sounds like the most unbearable first-world problem mumbo-jumbo psycho-babble horse shit ever.

She’s right here about the FB post she saw:

"Where the hell are all the decent men?”

A simple post – and a sentiment that we've probably all heard hundreds of times before in various different forms[. But t]he simple fact is that there is no way a man could have posted a question like this about women and got away with it. No way.

But not her conclusion:

The next time you see a comment like my friend's, whether you are a man or a woman, politely remind her that …

I can’t stand this “call out” culture bullshit at the best of times. It’s Millennial-era Puritanism at its worse - the last thing I’d want to do is justify it by finding my own little corner of victimhood I can wear like a badge of permanently (wounded) pride FFS.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I admit, I don't take any complaints about 'respecting women' seriously entirely because I've been hearing this garbage pour out of women's mouths my entire life.

Women need to be told to shut the fuck up with their toxic bullshit. Do they want to hear men running their mouths about what shit women are all day? Fuck now. They would riot over that. But they think it's their right to shit on an entire gender day in, day out. Fuck them, those childish pieces of shit.

I genuinely love shit like this, "where are all the good men" is the female equivalent of "why don't women like nice guys"

The reality is that good admirable attractive men have no shortage of offers and potential suitors that fit his needs and offer him something in return.

The women who complain about "No good men" are people who hold no value in the eyes of those they like, so they have to go bargain shopping in a sea of degenerates and people with personality issues because any stable attractive competent man would go after someone better than them.

Its like being a highschool drop out with a criminal record and tattoos on your face complaining that "where are all the good jobs"

The answer is "they are out there but you don't measure up"

Anyone who uses "where are all the good men/women" its an instant red flag. because it immediately shows the person probably doesnt have the ability to self critique and honestly appraise their actions, they just assume they are perfect and DESERVE the best because they are them.

There's truth to the second, but not to the first. So they're not equivalent.

[–]thatlowdowndirty47 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. There is a lot of truth in the notion "women do not favor "nice guys" romantically or sexually" or "nice guys finish last". This can actually be demonstrated. "Where have all the men gone" is nothing more than a whine at the realization that the biological clock is ticking. It's a crutch for women to once again avoid responsibility. Whether it be their high and ridiculous standards or just overall unpleasantness when trying to enforce these standards, it's all a mere mechanism to absolve said women of perhaps doing some introspective maintenance.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

More bollocks and another reason to just avoid females.
