Without her mattress, she has no way to feed her narcissism. There's really nothing extraordinary about her other than her fake victimhood. After she graduates she'll disappear into oblivion where she belongs, unless she decides to ride the victimhood train for life.

[–]gndn 44 points45 points46 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You're adorable if you think she won't get a book deal and/or a cushy writing position at some feminist blog. She's set for life if she keeps this up and she knows it. Professional Victim is a 21st century career choice.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Not sure what her particular major was, but there's nothing else for gender's studies degrees to do in general. All you can do is try to be a professional victim. Otherwise back to McDonald's with you.

Big Tobacco reps are FAR better at peddling falsehood. Her bullshit was easily debunked. The industries you're talking about would laugh heartily at that sort of amateur hour fraud.

[–]Frobenioid 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So hopefully for her she has a trust fund.

Yes. Her dad:

Kerry Jeff Sulkowicz (born 1958) is an American psychiatrist and the founder and managing principal of Boswell Group LLC, a consulting firm that advises business executives on the psychology of leadership and corporate management.

She's set for life.

Interesting parallel here with India, there was only outrage when lower caste men raped higher caste women. When it was higher caste men raping or assaulting lower caste women, nobody cared.

That trend seems to be global with feminism. They care less about whether the rape is real than if it supposedly happened to a rich woman.

[–]qdobe[S] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

thanks. I did kind of hate myself a lot for posting a buzzfeed article, but i thought it was to-the-point

[–]Darkling5499 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and yet the first comment you see is the standard "for every one like this / the UVA case there's thousands that go unreported, which is what we should be focusing on guys don't pay attention to her"

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points31 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Congratulations Emma, You've officially made sure the world knows that the fact that you claim to have been raped is thee only thing special about you.

I mean, why else would you take a day that is meant to celebrate what you've accomplished with you're entire life up to this point, and define it as you have? This is the only logical explanation.

"Mattress Girl" what a legacy.

[–]bakedpotato486 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure her parents were proud of her that day. /s

[–]ghiju123 27 points28 points29 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

i dont see how columbia's legal team didn't tackle her themselves. this is NOT good for them in the lawsuit Nunsesnnger filed.

[–]redgreenyellowblu 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Maybe they were trying to discourage her (with the 'no large objects' rule), but didn't want to physically stop her because it would be tacit admission of their guilt regarding Nungesser. Also, the rule was obviously put in place just for her so she could have possibly sued for the university making a rule specific to one person if they had enforced it.

But I agree with what you say-- by allowing her to bring the mattress they doubled down on their guilt. This is perhaps a more dramatic sign of support for Sulkowicz than any of the other biases listed in the lawsuit, such as waiving porotest clean-up fees. They actually made a rule about large objects, and then gave her and her slanderous matress 'statement' a special exception to the rule.

[–]bertreapot 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

in addition to the 'no large objects' rule, staff twice ask her not to carry the mattress: once at the staging area and once again right before she took the stage. i imagine they didn't force it from her because a) these are college admin types, not security guards and b) how bad would it look in the press if they physically removed the mattress from her?

i'm not sure how Sulkowicz carrying the mattress at the ceremony will help Nungesser's case. Unfortunately for him, the fact that they've now both graduated and are leaving campus weakens the urgency of it quite a bit.

[–]bakedpotato486 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nungesser is suing the university for allowing her libel against him. This is them continuing to support her position. This is them bending their own rules (no large objects) to allow her to continue slandering his name. I can't imagine it not helping his case.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I can not imagine any corporation wanting to hire her.

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Are you certain Ellen Pao wouldn't hire her?

[–]DAE_FAP 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd be fine with that. Pao made sure she can pay new hires ridiculously low salaries regardless of qualifications. She'd be better off going to work for McDonald's.

[–]ThogOfWar 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know you're busy but I would like to thank you for this interview at your wonderful company. As you know, I graduated in gender studies with a minor in art. This mattress? Oh, well I was raped, but the college found there wasn't enough evidence to expel the accused, so I dedicated my life to carrying this mattress until he is expelled! Now that it's five years out of college, it might be a moot point, but we will overcome!

[–]R50cent 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her father, and therefore she herself, is totally loaded. She doesn't need to work. Hell she graduated with a degree in visual arts and spent what I assume was a very large amount of time just carrying a fucking mattress everywhere. She doesn't give a fuck about much except how other people see her, that's why she's doing this, to effect how people look at her.

[–]qdobe[S] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I should add, I am not sure if he did attend. But that was his major point, was that he could walk and not have to look at the mattress or have his family have to look at it, obviously with the intention that it is directed at him.

[–]bertreapot 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

other articles i read stated that he crossed the stage minutes before she did. it sucks, but i imagine the family just had to shrug it off. it's not like they're sharing a reception, fortunately.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The school should be embarrassed for allowing this.

I guess they are more afraid of feminist attacks dogs in the media.

[–]tallwheel 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'm disgusted by that guy pictured helping her to carry the mattress. Some guys are so anxious to show off how much they "respect" women and want to protect them. We have words for guys like him...

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And at the center of it, Is simply his own desire to fuck the girl in question.. Call it and twist it however you want.

[–]lasciate 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i concur. there is a type of female who uses the free sex angle to attract men. she'll pretend that she's cool with casual sex, but only with you, and it's not a big deal if you move on or anything. but then she'll flip her lid when you jet.

i think it's a good lesson men: if you're not dating her and she is only promiscuous with you, there is a good chance she's not going to be happy when and if you leave. men are better off dating girls they're interested in eventually marrying, the easy sex just isn't worth the trouble.

The spokesperson did not comment on individual students, but added that the administration would not “physically block entry to graduates who are ultimately responsible for their own choices.”

Bureaucrats are just such cowards. No rule is more important than avoiding criticism from the new (left) 'moral majority.'

[–]DAE_FAP 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nobody likes the prospect of 40 delusional screaming harpies calling them a rape apologist in public. The shaming tactics work all too well.

[–]jubbergun 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would be more than happy to do it, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I've been shot at before, calling me names isn't going to rattle me. We need to stop being a bunch of pansies and start telling people like this to piss off.

[–]Super_BetaMax 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How will she be able to walk the commencement without hitting the other graduates with her mattress?

[–]DAE_FAP 27 points28 points29 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You really think she cares about anyone but herself?

[–]skitzokid1189 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I just thought of something.

Reverse the genders in this scenario

imagine a hypothetical scenario where the rapist was the media darling and he was allowed to attend the same graduation as the female victim.

How likely is it you think, the victim would either

a) not attend and be forced to spend the graduation at home waiting for everyone else

b) attend and deal with the fact people are openly supporting the rapist even if he breaking rules by bringing some giant object thats a metaphor for why the victim was shamed into silence

c) tell the school this is ridiculous, and his project should not be tolerated as it focuses the attention on the individual and makes everyone else's hard work and education seem side-lined to this spectacle

I built a guitar for my thesis project, you dont see me jumping on stage blasting out GWAR. Cause thats the kind of shit assholes do....also i can't play GWAR

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do we need a hypothetical?

[–]escobari 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

good luck on the job market - the crazy industry is booming right now

[–]Methodius_ 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's funny that she also did this on the day when new prospective students would be coming on to campus.

So not only did the entire student body "know" about what's going on, but new students who haven't even started there do too!

Oh boy can I not wait to see how this lawsuit turns out.

[–]almostchristian 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't this help Nunngesser's case against the university? Having clear rules prohibiting the carrying large objects during the graduation ceremony yet allowing the girl to carry the mattress, could be construed as the university's tacit approval, maybe even endorsement of the alleged harassment campaign.

[–]bertreapot -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i don't think so, unless his attorney amends the complaint. she may.

IMO what really hurts is case is this: they just graduated. the crisis he faced is over with, and he can move on with his life. And honestly the harm done to him by Columbia was minimal. i'm not on Sulkowicz' side, but she is the real perpetrator here. However she's a poor college kid and a sympathetic defendant, so that's likely why he's not suing her as well.

[–]MisterDamage 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is unclear if this seemingly new rule was intended to prevent Sulkowicz from bringing the mattress she had used as a symbol to protest her rape since September.

Oops

Some of those comments. Holy shit.

It blows my mind that some people are willing to believe all males are potential rapists, while refusing to believe that some women are potential liars. WTF... we're all actualized liars!!! It's so hard for me not to assume these people aren't just liars with an agenda.

[–]Blutarg 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm surprosed she graduated; after reading samples of her writing she sounds like she could barely find her way out of her dorm room.

"ruining the event for her victim"

I'm sure the millions of dollars he's about to receive from the school will make up for it.

[–]skitzokid1189 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

he worked hard for his degree.

shouldn't he be allowed to enjoy his graduation ceremony like everyone else without having to face his accuser and army of white knights?

[–]burbod01 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
