Yup modern soyciety is designed for married dual income households. Being single as a man is not only much more likely nowadays but it’s also way more expensive. Single men also have higher homeowners and auto insurance rates too.

I lived with my parents after law school from May 2012 till April 2015, when my mom died. Moved into an apt with GF, got married bought house Dec 2015.

Only reason I could do that was saving up money from not paying rent for 3 years

I guess that I'm quite lucky in that regard and should remind myself that things could be worse. I'm single but fortunate enough to own my own home and car and don't have to worry about making ends meet.

I can't imagine how I'd cope with lack of a relationship on top of those uncertainties. I sympathise with those who are in that position.

It does seem that society favours partnered people when it comes to finances. However, there are workarounds. For example, I listed one of my parents as a named driver on my car insurance for a lower quote.

I'd be keen to know if there are any hidden financial advantages for a single-person household. It's not something that I've ever really though about.

In all fairness if you work a shit tier job move to a remote area where rent is cheaper it worked for me or could get a two bedroom apartment with a long trusted friend. I'm a home owner who rents out a room to a long standing friend yet my wages are pretty bad. I do live in the anglosphere inb4 someone asks so rent is atrocious in much of my country and becoming so in my current area along with house prices rising, think I will cash out and move again in a couple years.
