I think there is a disconnect in the ways men and women experience loneliness that makes it harder for women to empathize. I'm guilty of having dismissed loneliness as a form of weakness in the past, because I felt that being alone is something we just have to accept sometimes, that it's a choice to succumb to loneliness and despair. Also I personally enjoy and often prefer being alone so it was hard to relate - 'What's the big deal? Most people suck anyway. Get a pet. Learn to enjoy your own company'. But what I realized is that there's a difference in being alone and being lonely. I can go days/weeks without interacting with other humans and think nothing of it, but I know that if I did need someone to talk to, I just have to pick up the phone. Those who do not have a support system they can reach out to are lonely on a deeper level (and are more likely to be men), which I am much more aware of and sympathetic to now.

As far as the harmlessness of lonely virgins, every study I've seen that analyzes traits of serial killers and mass murderers includes loneliness as a common factor. In that respect, calling male loneliness an epidemic is pretty accurate:

1- Men in the United States are chronically lonely.

Boys in the United States — just like all human beings — need touch, caring, warmth, empathy, and close relationships. But as we grow up, most of us lose those essential components of our humanity.

What’s worse: we have no idea how to ask for those things, or admit we need them, because we’re afraid it will make us look weak.

As a man, you might be thinking, “Not me, I’ve got drinking buddies. I play poker with the guys. I’ve got friends.”

But do you have confidants? Do you have male friends who you can actually be vulnerable with? Do you have friends whom you can confide in, be 100% yourself around, that you can hug without saying “No homo,” without feeling tense or uncomfortable while you’re doing it?

For many men, the answer is “no.” So, we spend our time posturing instead.

From an early age, we have an unhealthy ideal of masculinity that we try to live up to. Part of that ideal tells us that Real men do everything on their own. Real men don’t cry. Real men express anger through violence.

The byproduct is isolation. Most men spend the majority of their adult lives without deeper friendships, or any real sense of community. Not to mention a complete inability to release anger or sadness in a healthy way.

This loneliness compounds as men grow older.

Without deeper friendships or a strong sense of community, the isolation is soul-deadening and maddening. You are alone.

Any slight from someone you care about can feel emotionally traumatizing. After enough rejections and feeling like an outcast, you begin to believe that people are just cruel and not worth the effort. You perceive people as threats.

Before we ask, “How could he do such a thing?” we have to understand how that person felt on a daily basis, and how those feelings grew over the years.

It's like the majority of men and women are fundamentally opposed to each other, naturally. Like having to come together to proliferate the species is some sort of cosmic joke/punishment...

Both men and women suffer in life, literally no one escapes it. The suffering may look different from the outside and very attractive people may have more opportunities than average or below but that's for both men and women. There seems to be a fixation on sex-based suffering, where men think they suffer more...I just don't see it that way, I've tried.

As far as the link you shared, her response wasn't attacking lonely men just stating that lonely men attack women but then want sympathy from women for being lonely...which is true. I've experienced it several times in here alone. Are you honestly saying that men of all stripes don't foment hatred for women? If so, it gives credence to a working theory I have about most men... there's some sort of mental block where many men cannot see their actions or the actions of other men when their negative behaviors are being called out by a woman, specifically. There's some sort of reality distortion then ego protection that occurs automatically. Highly illogical if you ask me. I'm sure that's true of some women as well, women have their own issues so I'm not saying we're perfect. I just wish we lived in a world where men and women were naturally compatible and not at odds all the time 😥.

I think what the person is getting at is that traditionally woman have always been criticised for being alone, spinster etc however recently more woman are outwardly saying they would prefer to be alone, prefer the company of cats rather than a shitty partner and therefore this insult can’t be used against them anymore however hard guys try

But lonely men on the other hand are calling their situations an epidemic, implying it’s up to society to save them, everyone’s giving them advice but ultimately they don’t want to help themselves, instead of trying to improve their situations or own them they way woman do, they’ve painted themselves as victims

The post seems aimed at a pretty wide band of men. Considering the statistics, it seems to show that a lot of men have this. You don't have a monopoly on that. Settle down.

Tbh the worst part is that they are generalizing all males. I'd never say that to a woman or anybody else because I know how loneliness feels. I know that some people think they women can't be lonely at the same levels as a male but they definitely can in my opinion.

Also for the women that do actually think lonely males are creepy or despise them, they need to be more upfront with their. If you think I'm a low value male, just tell me that to my face instead of just tolerating me. It would save us a whole bunch of time.

I've never seen women express hatred for lonely men. We give them advice, they're often rude in return, we move on. Some men think that women should give them what they want, otherwise "you're not treating us like human beings". It's twisted. Good thing MOST lonely men aren't like that.

Women don't want empowerment, they much prefer playing the victim. Power means responsibility and if they admitted they hold all the power in the sexual marketplace. They would have to admit that there deeply toxic relationships are their own fault.

As you say it ridiculous that women condemn lonely men as toxic, when they choose to date and sleep some of the most toxic men on the planet.

Imagine a man that believes his purpose for being on this earth is to raise and protect a family. But then one day he realizes that he has been deemed unworthy of procreation by his society. Why even exist? That line of thinking is a real kick in the balls. I can see some men reacting violently to such a soul crushing reality. Its not right, but i still get it.

Its hard to get through the day when you think nothing you do matters and you'll literally be alone and die alone once your immediate family is gone. Such men really deserve to be hated. Our negative energy is a real downer for everyone else.
