Pretty sure Texas has a cap at around 3K for CS for 3 kids, think its 1.8K for one kid. This was one reason Elon Musk moved there. In California it would be a % of his $54BN pay, in Texas its a few thousand!

It's (according to google) 1840 for one kid 2300 for two kids per month so NOT 20%

talk with a lawyer about the step kid situation but most likely you are only looking at 1840

you may have married a repeat offender and if she is getting 1840 form DAD 1 then you as Dad 2 probably pay difference of 2300 - 1840 to Mom. Until Step kid 1 ages out then you pay 1840 adjusted.

The calculation will go differently if Mom is being paid less than 1840 by dad 1. So you likely will be paying like this Dad 1 portion + your sap portion as Dad 2 = 2300

How recent the divorce for mom from Dad1 will tell you if she's in the system with the State AG. Everything is tracked there so that moms with 2 baby daddies can't get max child support for 1 kid from multiple baby daddies.

So good news is child support is capped in the great state of Texas - Yee Haw

EDIT - make sure to agree on details of Child support IN DECREE. All of the child support numbers ARE STATE MANDATED and are based on STATE CALCULATIONS, judge, mom, dad have NO SAY... you pay what state law says. As a side note I have heard in several affluent jurisdictions (Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin counties etc) that judges hardly EVER give any Alimony/Spousal support... so don't offer this in negotiations... they are likely not to get any Spousal Support no matter how much they demand it. Get a good lawyer and a good lawyer in texas will know and advise you on Spousal Support (the tell of a good one is that THEY will say you hardly ever see Spousal support awarded except in Private School tuition or special needs children cases)

I think you just need to file an order with the courts to reduce child support or after 3 years when child support is reviewed.

It is not going to matter... Texas only takes 20% of the first ~9200 in income the max payment for one child is about ~ 1800 usd a month...

If you are going to leave the second job in 2 to 3 months, wait till then to file for the divorce so they can file child support with your single income.
