About 2/3 of people actually get married, and half of those get divorced. Of the half of marriages that haven’t ended in divorce, roughly 1/3 are unhappy, 1/3 are neutral, 1/3 are happy.

So 1/3 of people get married and stay married, and 1/3 of them are happy. That’s 1/9. And not all of those who are happy stay that way.

So our society bases its morals, ideals, norms and laws on the roughly 1 in 10 people that are “happily married”.

How weird and unrepresentative is that?
