Once you're in different homes, I'd use the date that the relationship broke down irreconcilably (Dec 5). If you were talking to a potential date today, I would give a lot more explanation.

It will be asked and you should keep it short, separated since whenever, she cheated and I won't tolerate that so there's no chance of getting back together.

That's going to be the main reason to ask, to see if there is any chance of you getting back together and if you're worth investing their time and energy into.

People ask this question to gauge where in the process of both the actual divorce and your personal healing that you are. It takes time to get over a relationship and heal. By not taking the time to heal, a lot of people enter new relationships emotionally unavailable and/or carrying their baggage along with them and never truly dealing with it. Personally, I wouldn't want to date someone who isn't ready. I say this as someone who got themselves into a couple of rebound relationships after my divorce that went horribly because I wasn't anywhere near ready.

If you're going out, just be honest. You will lose some, but the ones that stay should know what they are potentially getting into.

Ask yourself why it matters........honestly, why does it really matter, unless you're already tying to date, when you "separated" from the wife you're still living with?
