Think I've posted comments worth an entire book on this, There are countless ways including simple gifts, cash under mattress, purchase from friend, opening offshore account etc. The lawyers will of course threaten to find everything, its all bark and no bite. The disclosure process is mostly voluntary

Remember that all communal debt is split 50/50, so don't pay communal debt down before the divorce. As for hiding money, look real world talk: the system is the system, and it is fundamentally broken. You are not going to beat the system, your attorney is not going to beat the system, the judge, congress, etc. Multimillionaire and billionaires can't beat the system.

Draw down some cash and put it aside, prior to filling that is 100% legal. Open a new bank account, and the day before you file, start having your check deposited there. If there are significant funds in the joint account, take half just prior to filing as well (this well cause her feelings and might make the proceeds rough, but if that's her anyway...).

If we are talking a few percentages of an overall legit reported assets probably not an issue.

So if you are thinking of secreting some cash (and you want cash cash, not in an account cash) so that your transition to singleness is more comfortable that is one thing which probably acceptable

I always recommend to men who are getting divorced to have some cash in a secure location not at home so they can get access to it in an emergency, Divorce filing on you IS an emergency.

getting a lawyer (on retainer which is 5-10k) and having about 5 to 10k in cash ready and available if you suddenly lose access to your house, accounts (via frozen accounts of a court order from initial hearing)

FYI since you are in Texas, you will have 14 days or so to RESPOND to a filing for divorce by your wife if you have kids (initial hearings are QUICK). Which means if you don't have a lawyer and he has the information to file a counter claim... you will be looking at that initial filing by the Missus as not being contested by you at the initial hearing (which means what she says GOES, she wanted 10k in spousal support, maybe granted!.. if you don't get a filing together to counter her claims)

good news is to my understanding Child Support is capped regardless of income. So you have that to look forward to.

Dude, don't hide shit it will come out at some point... the best you could do is start to keep a little bit of extra cash in your wallet.

Also just pay down you joint and solo debt,the only exception would be don't pay down your mortgage.

Start “paying cash for everything” and having a “gambling habit”. This could work if you’re years from divorce but not if you’re months away.

Trying to hide assets is a huge risk. While it's enticing to do that, there are so many ways to find them.
